Somewhat related: we went on vacation w/ my in laws when my baby was 6 months old and they rented a 'baby bed' for him to sleep in that was actually and infant sleep positioner type thing that was only 22 inches long (my son was about 27 inches long at that point).

I think they just don't tend to remember how big babies are at different ages and then just pick clothes that look cute without thinking to check the sizes/think about the seasons. I'd just say 'Thank you! We love the clothes you picked out! Unfortunately, kid is so big for his/her age (even if they're not) and growing so quickly that I don't know he/she'll be able to fit into this size still by the time the weather gets cool again. Do you think it would be possible to maybe exchange the clothes for larger sizes?'
