I love to cook, its my thing and I am an especially great baker if I do say so myself. I had read all about her fakery and how she stole from and screwed over other bloggers to get to the top but hey she had the money to buy the resources and producers to get her to the food network, so what are you going to do?

I do have a husband who is from the midwest and loves a dose of comfort food every so often so I have tried a good sampling of her recipes. I always follow a recipe exactly the first time around.

The good:
her cinnamon rolls are fantastic
the shrimp with vodka cream sauce was wonderful, but its a pretty universal recipe and the one she makes is her sister Betsy's recipe

The bad:
Almost universally her food is overly salty. If there is mustard or worcestershire in her recipe it is used so heavy handed that it becomes the prevalent flavor in the dish. Think yellow mustard beans or worcestershire salad dressing. Her cooking times are always less than they need to be. Especially on meat, even when cooking mid rare.
You can always half the butter/cream in a recipe no problem and still have a creamy rich tasting dish.

Most of her baked goods are rather meh. Always need some tweaking.

Don't make any of the three variations she has for beef dipped sandwiches, two were horrible and I didn't bother with the third because it was so similar to the others.

I have to wonder if she smokes, because anytime she uses tabasco or any type of heat it is WAY too much. Even to someone like myself who enjoys spicy food.

which brings me to...

The ugly:
Her chipotle pop pulled pork was so hot it ruined a beautiful piece of meat. We love hot and spicy food too. I followed it exactly against my better judgement and used the entire can of chipotles. The meat was so hot (and stringy because she has you basically braising it in 20 ounces of dr pepper.) that it was inedible. I made my own later with two peppers (seeded), onions, garlic, s&p and a bit of modelo negra and braised it all day then pulled it, degreased and blended the sauce and its now a family favorite for homey comfort food.

When I got to her recipe for marinara I just couldn't anymore with her. She made a fairly basic meat sauce (way too much undrained ground beef - but thats pretty much her style) then she added a jar of store bought pasta sauce "It's my secret ingredient." Um... then why did you just bother with the onions, garlic and canned tomatoes??? Just buy two jars next time and call it a day!

Anyway, thats how I feel about her. She irks me too.

For good food network comfort food, try Heartland Table, everything of Amy's I have tried has come out perfect and delicious. Especially her maple toast with cheese for a treat!

This is why I don't like her. Italian here. That's fucking butchery of my food culture. Marinara doesn't have meat in it. And real marinara is so damned easy to make (and make well) that to use jarred sauce when you're someone who's paid to come up with recipes? Just, no.

She's a bloody Philistine. She should stick to shitty casseroles made with Campbell's soup and leave the Italian recipes to people with souls.

Not only do I find her looks somehow super irritating but I think she's a complete fraud as far as the self appointed home cook- her recipes are a complete joke and I simply cannot believe that she has made a career and a successful one to boot that over pedaling recipes that are a step above those shown on the back of a Campbell Soup can!!!!
Anonymous
I don't have a strong opinion nor do I really know much about her, but I have to admit I kinda enjoy her show. I realize the recipes are basic but I enjoy the whole glimpse into her life - it is so foreign to me that it is intriguing. She also seems very good natured with a positive attitude, and her kids are lovely.

She lies about everything to make her persona "the perfect fish out of water ranch wife"

You can google and find several sites that expose her. Some of the most glaring:

She grew up about 20 minutes from the small town she lives in now, in another small oklahoma town. Yes, she spent her college years in Los Angeles, but she puts out that she was a "City girl" who married a cowboy and moved to the middle of nowhere.

She says she went from vegetarian to meat eater when she married "her" cowboy. She ate fish and chicken before, by her own admission.

She says she met Ladd (the cowboy) when she glanced across a crowded room by chance. They met on a date she asked to be fixed up on and she continued to pester the mutual friend until Ladd called her like 4 months later for a second date.

She calls her intellectually disabled brother "retard" or "retarded" and especially likes to make others uncomfortable when she does it. This was scrubbed from her blog when she got her cooking show.

She puts out that she has no help (housekeeper once a week for a few years but then she moved away), that she takes care of her kids on her own and homeschools them. She has full time staff, nanny and teachers. This was even before her success with the food network show.

She steals, verbatim, recipes and puts them out as her own. Some famous rip offs were from Martha Stewart, Lidia Bastianich and several off "Tasty Kitchen" her site where her "fans" can post their own recipes.

Many people feel their BML practices are inhumane. As is their calf surfing (riding on a calf as it is bound and being dragged by a horse) and some who know horses say their horses hooves are in dire need of care.

She is a scam artist.

LOL

Me again what? If you are inferring I've posted this before I haven't.

I used to enjoy pw and then I started reading all the disgruntled posts here and there, so I read some more, found out how her persona is pretty much faked and was done with her. OP asked, I answered. It took maybe three minutes, so that wasn't much time to spend out of my life, especially when I am on a forum... for posting.

I sound unstable? You are laughing out loud because you think I am someone I am not ...

NP, not draining off the grease after cooking the ground beef

Aww thanks.

Here is how I do the pork, I usually use a bone in roast for extra flavor.

preheat to 425

salt and pepper the meat then brown it on all sides in an oven safe pot with a lid

set the meat aside and drain the grease off (that is what I meant by undrained ground beef

add enough beer or dark cola to give you about an inch in the bottom of your pot, scrape up the bits off the bottom

add a sliced onion, 4-6 garlic cloves and 1-2 seeded chopped chipoltles (this is really up to your taste - you can also leave the chile whole and remove it before blending the sauce for a milder taste)

salt and pepper your onions etc and add your meat back in cover your dish and turn your over down to 325

let it cook until tender - about 3 hours

remove the meat, skim some of the fat off the top, remove the chile if you want to then blend the sauce

shred your meat and add it back into your sauce, add salt and pepper to taste

I like to serve this on toasted buns with creamy cole slaw.

apparently she stole a lot of recipes from church type cookbooks and claimed them as her own

i made a turkey tettrazini (sp?) recipe of hers a few years ago with leftover t-giving turkey and it was so rich it made one of my kids ill (and we are not a family of particularly healthy eaters).

NP. So you read a balanced list of points, assume it's only one person who posts anything even mildly critical of Ree Drummond, and pronounce her unstable. Takes one one to know one, I guess.

I cannot stand her "aw shucks" fake attitude and her street walker eye-liner. Look, when you get to be a certain age, you need to wear less, NOT MORE.
Her recipes are so unhealthy. It's hard to watch her cook slop, then load it into the truck and feed the family while they've been working. Same show. Every. Stinking. Episode.
How does she have a following?

One ep she literally (I don't like to throw that overused word around, but it works here) assembled sandwiches from cold cuts, slices of cheddar, and condiments, wrapped them up, and drove off to hand them out at football practice.
