There ARE instances where the base school calls and lets the parents know. Here are two posts showing such examples: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/101445.page#828618 http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/210/158039.page#1509252 I also have two kids in AAP since 3rd grade (one now in MS and one now in HS) and in both cases the AART at our base school called to let me know. (Two different AARTs, by the way.) |
| FWIW, I think it is REALLY unusual for a center to have a Saturday orientation. Ours was at 2:30 last year and we found out about it 4 days in advance. |
You are being considerate to your employee and colleagues and engaged w/ your DC's education. Contact your DC's AART - they should be able to give this info. Again, just holding the date, right? |
I do love this summary. It's really a long road. Need to pace ourselves. |
Good advice "make the plans you need to." Not sure how pp will do that if the school won't tell her the date for the orientation, even though the date is already set. "Learn to meditate mindfully," I'm sure that will be really helpful to her coworkers. I think the point is the school could make things a lot easier if they would just provide that information since they definitely already know it. If pp was only complaining about how long it's taking for the results to be sent because she just wants to know if her DC is in, I would get your point, but I think her frustration with not being told the orientation date, which has already been determined, is valid. I get why people in Arlington laugh at the dysfunction of the whole AAP process and think that APS is better run. FCPS is totally ridiculous in administering the circus they created. I have to say, after hearing all the hype about FCPS, I'm not impressed now that I actually have kids in the system. Maybe it was better back in the day, but I have to say it's not anything to be impressed with in it's current state.

| OP: as you tracking down the AAP orientation day and clear your calendar (BTW, it will be on a weekday afternoon, right after school). Have you made plans for IF your DC doesn't get in? Or are you so certain your kid is in and will not accept any result other than that? |
How hard is it to block out the time now? If you unblock it because your child wasn't accepted, then you unblock it- or take the afternoon off and and do something fun.
|
PP - you seem to everything figured out for OP - am sure everything will work out and hope it works out for you. |
| The AAP Meetings for those found eligible for Level IV AAP are May 4th -15th. It is on the web site. Our school already told us when their Level IV Meeting will be for those found eligible. I am sure you can ask the AAP teacher at your specific school. If you are concerned that your child is not accepted to Level IV, start getting their paper work together for the May 29th deadline to appeal. I assume most people already have indications from their school one way or another. That being, "Yes, I fell your child will do well in Level IV." If you feel your child's 2nd grade team and the decision board is and was not able to see your child's full ability on the first round, again appeal. |
| um, er....I am getting a little nervous that if my kid gets in this is going to be the tone of dialogue with the parents...this is truly, exactly what I didn't want....and kind of feared.... |
I'm not the OP, but I'm the person trying to track down the orientation date. I don't need to make plans for IF DC doesn't get in. We like our base school and if DC doesn't get in to AAP, nothing changes. But IF DC gets in to AAP I'd like to attend the orientation to see what the center school offers. |
Yes, except if it's not about AAP, it will be about something else. This area is filled with CRAZY parents....myself included
|
It's hard to block out the time now when I don't know what period of time to block. If the center school would stop acting like it's top secret information, I could easily block the time and unblock it if DC isn't accepted. But this minor irritation hardly warrants deep breathing, a massage or mindful meditation. Maybe just a glass of wine with friends. |
| Is it on the center school's website calendar? |
Call the school and ask when the orientation is. Easy peasy. |
