Said the speeding jerk.

You get what you get.

So you are telling me you NEVER speed? You're probably the asshole who drives 5 mph under the speed limit in the left lane.

Dude. You are the one with the reckless driving charge.

IKR?

Oh, Ho, ho, well aren't you clever???

I got a reckless about 15 years ago and lost my license for a month when I showed up in court, representing myself.

But I was going 13 over.

Anything over 80 is reckless driving in the commonwealth!

As well it should be.

Exactly. I'm no Virginia fan, but 80 is not an appropriate driving speed-- ever.

Not OP, but there are long spans of highway out West where the limit is 75. Meaning everyone is doing at least 80, on cruise control, because just like here everyone goes +5 or +10. We drove through Arizona on I-40 doing 80-85 and were getting passed on the left by the people doing 90-95. Of course, I would never ever drive like that here, but out there it's the middle of the desert and there's barely anyone around and it's straight and flat and sunny and dry and boring and if you are putzing along at 65 you are the problem.

They definitely sound like those assholes who sit in the left lane just to "show everyone a lesson." They are actually the ones who are going to cause an accident one day!

OP, yes, it's a racket. Definitely get a lawyer. Probably needs to be a local one (part of the racket).

Have they told you this while slowly driving in the left lane? You are projecting and getting angry at someone who may have completely different intentions if any at all.

What county? If it was Rappahannock or Warren, you're screwed unless you get a LOCAL lawyer. I paid $1200 to a local guy to void losing my license after getting ticketed in Rappahannock. Worth every penny.

Anonymous wrote:Over 80 is automatic reckless. Doesn't matter that it's "only 13 over." OP you sound in denial. This is serious in Virginia. Get a lawyer.

That's just a dumb comment. How can I be in denial when i know it happened. I was there. I was responding to someone who said "15mph over is reckless driving" that's all.

To everyone else, thanks for the advice. I'm going to search other threads for lawyer recommendations. This law targets people who are from out of state and are just driving through, which does not make the state very welcoming.

20 over poster OR over 80 defines reckless driving in Virginia. The law applies to all of us. You were caught driving recklessly in Virginia. Good luck.

To the OP - what road was this on? Generally speaking, the roads that are 70 MPH, I tend to go 75 or a tad over but knowing the reckless driving laws in VA, keep it under 80.

I use my cruise control to regulate my speed, particularly on 95 (when it's not jammed with traffic).

There is a place in Manassas Park that regularly gives tickets in a 25-35 mph zone. I even use the cruise control there.

What are these other intentions if they are illegally just hanging out in the left lane instead of using it to pass?

It happened to me but I pulled over and waited for the cop. I totally admitted to speeding. The judge reduced everything since i did that. I ended up with a large fine.

OP-

This exact thread comes up every few weeks on DCUM. Unfortunately the best thing you can do is shell out for a lawyer.

You are on the Internet. No one is in any lane, and no one has said anything about driving slowly in the left lane, merely pointed out that some of you admit to driving at obscene speeds. You can get as huffy as you like, but you speeders are dangerous. High speed accidents are awful.

Hey asshole Maryland driver, slow down

Alright, I searched the other threads. Does anyone have recommendations for lawyers in Rockbridge county, VA or the town of Lexington? Thanks!
