This is terrible advice. Yes - it's possible to get a private placement, but only AFTER the school system has failed your child for two years or so, and then you have to hire a lawyer and get serious. Why waste a few years of your kids educational life like that? It's terrible.

OP, post in the special needs forum to get some advice also.

I would look at close-in Silver Spring neighborhoods.

I'm in your demographic and I live in Silver Spring, near downtown

20853, not sure how the HS fits your needs, but the other criteria are decently matched.

Every situation is different. My child was never in DCPS and has private placement since K. However, things have changed. Having an advocate and excellent lawyer is key but also depends on the child's particular profile. OP should post in special needs no matter where she looks.

College Gardens in Rockville. Town homes are $300,000 to $400,000. I think the single family homes may be a little out of your range. Not sure. But good schools, diverse, somewhat walkable, and best of all, right next to an I 270 exit.

Google azalea drive.

Rockville in the RichMo zone. $500k might be a tough fit.

If MARC + Metro is a possibility, then somewhere near downtown Frederick.

OP, I live in PG and absolutely love it (NT kid is in a public magnet), but have to advise against it if your child has an IEP and and autism diagnosis.

I do have a couple of dear friends in Howard County who have great things to say about the schools there.

OP I live in PG (Brandywine) and we also have a SN child. We have been extremely happy with the services. We are on an extended ISFP through the summer will convert to an IEP when the school year starts. Can't say enough about the help we've gotten.

We also live in a great neighborhood with a lot of military retirees who are both white and AA. My DH commutes to DC but we've driven to Walter Reed for DD's medical appointments and it usually take 1.5 hours in rush hour (we have 9 am appointments).

Might be worth your while to consider southern PG also.

We live in Columbia MD. I recommend taking a look here.

Schools are fantastic (FFX Co has some of the best in the country), and the commute to Bethesda is pretty easy. Not walkable though, which I don't like. The budget may not fit unless you're willing to look at townhouses?

We're a mixed race family and highly considering McLean. How have the neighbors treated you? While our family may be different as an interracial family, we're looking to find an area that will treat us as if we belong. Have you felt welcomed and, more importantly, have your children been able to keep and make friends? TIA

Grew up in PG and would absolutely not recommend it. Terrible schools for one. Secondly, it's not very diverse unless you consider mostly AA with a sprinkling of low income whites and a small filipino enclave as diverse.

And lets not forget the South American contingent, do they even speak English in Langley Park anymore?
