Friendship is the largest charter operator in the city. They run 9 schools and have around 5,000 students.

Is it good? There are a lot of bad charter schools and there are a lot of good ones. Which are we expanding here?

Friendship is one of the worst offenders for kicking kids out. They don't deal with difficult behaviors, they just bounce kids back to DCPS. Seems to me if you educate 5k city kids, you should be required to have various levels of behavioral intervention to be able to deal with all kids.

Sorry.

Well, it's a very atypical situation as to how I came to be his godmother--think a Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization type situation. He does not live with his bio-parents. His current parent justifies it because his bio father lives in DC (who he has never ever lived with in his life). He was having difficulty in his MD school and Friendship accepted him well after the start of the school year to play on their sports teams. She is desperate for him to go to college and they have a good track record of getting kids into colleges.

Is the kid a ward of DC with foster parents/guardians in MD? A lot of kids who are wards of DC reside in MD with a few in VA.

No, he was adopted long ago.

You do realize that the parents/godparents/etc falsifying his enrollment information are violating the law, and, at a minimum should be forced to pay the city the tuition back for him? I'm happy to report the residency violation for you. What his name?

Oh, he's been reported and is being investigated as part of a group of football players in violation of residency requirements. And I'm glad. I love the kid to pieces, but I don't like that he's being taught to blatantly violate rules, lie, steal, etc. It's a long story but I think what's being done in the name of "for his own good" is actually going to harm him as a person in the long run.

Because of the one-year notice requirement for DCPS boundary changes I guess that school won't have a boundary this year. What will its feeder pattern be? Wonder if they'll announce a 2016-7 boundary for it next year, and how that will change the boundaries of other schools nearby.

I feel for parents who don't get that much time to decide if they'd like to enter the lottery or change their picks, especially those at/applying to the CAPCS or DC Bilingual.

How would they add another neighborhood school there? Is there overcrowding in the elementary schools there?

This is interesting (largely positive) news.

Any news on their real estate?

What will the building at 1300 Allison Street be used for? DCPS will start a school or another charter goes there? What does that mean DCPS will take the 590 stidents at CAPCS

I believe it means that Amos 1 will be converted (back) into a DCPS school.

A new neighborhood school? With new boundaries?? That sounds like it would be a mess and a half.

Why on earth are you talking about this kids business in a truly public forum? It can be easy to figure out who he is. Poor judgment on your part. Just stop.

I already submitted my lottery application so I don't think I can check. But are the capcs schools still listed as options or were they removed?

I think they are in the process of being removed, and that MSDC is planning to get in touch with people who applied there to let them know.

Have you not read any of the public newspaper articles about the Friendship football team?
