An interesting take on radical Islam

You call it spin and rationalizing because you disagree with her. She seems to show quite a lot of willingness to engage and she's pretty patient compared to the average poster here.

Different PP here. The point is, you accused PP of making her answer for every crime committed in the name of her faith, but in fact she's quite free to leave. Nobody's forcing her to respond to anything. Instead she keeps coming back. One person's "willing to engage" is another person's "inserting herself into the discussion." She's definitely not the poster who calls everybody Islamophobic grannies with STDs, although she does sink to childish taunts and dubious rhetorical games. I'm another person who's watched her for a while and engaged her some. While I know quite a bit about Islam and I find her fairly disingenuous, when it comes to her continued participation here, I'm really on the fence about whether I think she's here to promote Islam, or instead I should congratulate her for doggedly sticking with it.

I think she is here to promote her political and religious views. She walks an extremely fine line on proselytizing though and, in my opinion, has crossed that line a few times not just here but previously in the religious forum also.

As someone who grew up in an extremely religious household, I feel like I understand Muslima a little bit. She believes that she is showing us the light, and that once she communicates it effectively enough, we will all find Islam as awesome as she does. What seems like her being patient and engaging is actually her humoring you, much like a person would humor a 4 year old talking about their favorite cartoon. She's absolutely not interested in any criticisms you have of Islam (they're all based on misunderstanding anyway), and it shows. Concession=failure. What all this does for her is inflate her sense of self-importance-- she has knowledge no else does, she has a special mission here from God, and how convenient, she can accomplish her mission anonymously on a website with absolutely no risk to herself!

You might think to yourself "oh, that's absolutely crazy and a big waste of her time." Why yes, yes it is. Welcome to being extremely religious.

I seriously doubt she expects you to find it "awesome". Nor does she appears to humor anyone like a little child.

It sounds like you are projecting your childhood onto all of this. Muslims is not responsible for what your parents did to you when you were a four year old.

Not that PP, but she could easily be one of the several ex-Muslims who post here. We don't really know which anonymous poster is which.

In any case, she thinks it's awesome, so why is it so doubtful that she expects we will, too? We don't know her motives. I've watched her for a while now, and I still cannot say whether she's here because she thinks it's important to represent (semi-)moderate Muslims, or whether she's here to proselytize. Or maybe she's here to do both, they aren't mutually exclusive.

^^^ pronoun confusion, sorry. In the 1st para, "she" refers to the PP you're answering. In the 2nd para, "she" is Muslima.

11:21/11:24 again. I should add that I'm quite sure that Muslima is the poster who came out with declarations that "Islam treats women captives well" and "women are equal in Islam" without any further explanation of these points. The former led to dozens of pages about whether women captives/concubines are released if/when they become pregnant, or whether freedom comes only after the Muslim slave owner dies. The latter led to about 3 pages of various posters citing Islamic divorce, inheritance and marital property laws before Muslima responded with "oh, of course I meant the Islamic idea of women's equality, which is much different from what I like to call Western 'linear' equality, and you should have known all along what I meant." (For those who weren't in on that discussion and don't know what she meant, Muslima uses the phrase 'Western linear equality' to mean 'legal equality' in laws regarding divorce and inheritance.)

Carelessness? A sincere desire to put a good face on Islam? Proselytizing? You decide, because I still can't be sure.

I asked Muslima for an explanation for the killing in the kosher grocery. "She" responded by calling me "Buddy" and not answering the question. I find 'buddy" an odd choice of words from a Muslim woman.

She probably assume you're a guy and was trying to be cutesy. We all fail at being internet cute sometimes.

No--disagree--it doesn't fit in with "her" other language.

Being patient and being relentless are two different things.

11:21/11:24/11:50 again. I don't actually care if she's relentless. I care if she's fair and honest when she's being relentless. If being "relentless" includes introducing new subjects in a dishonest way, like I described at 11:50, then I have a problem with it. When being "relentless" just means she's here to defend her faith honestly, then I have no problem with it.

honestly? as in acknowledging its flaws?

As a fierce adherent, she won't do that. No "true" believer in any sect will mention flaws. So why would you expect her to be honest when she refuses to recognize the truth?

blind faith
