Is FCPS going to talk to my boss and ask him not to consider firing me because of my absences??

This is the second school closing this year. How many other absences have you had, and why don't you have back-up childcare? It's not like any of this is a surprise--schools get cancelled because of weather.

Does anywhere other than Burke have snow? Not a sprinkle in Oakton!

Light dusting near Falls Church, maybe 1/2"

I don't think it's the snow accumulation they are so worried about, but the icy conditions caused by whatever precipitation (snow/sleet/rain) is falling onto the very cold ground.

I was surprised about the FCPS closing, too, however. It's only mid-January!!

It is only mid January. I worry about the rest of the winter. Childcare does not educate my child.

Schools get cancelled because of crying, lazy parents.

Exactly. Some WOHMs and I have a rotating babysitting group at this point, so childcare is (mostly) covered. However, am I expected to keep my kids up to speed on the curriculum?

It's Jan. 14 and there's a dusting of snow outside my door (as commuters without kids head out). This does not bode well for the rest of the winter.

Anyone want to start a #openfcps thread on twitter??? I could get a great picture of my kids standing in full snow suits on a completely bare sidewalk.

PP has a valid gripe when the snow closing seem no random. It's no way to run a school system or a life. How do you back up childcare for something seemingly so random. Who would be available at the drop of a hat for no rhyme or reason. Sounds like you need to get back to work at Gatehouse.

schools get cancelled because of BAD weather. not because there is a dusting of snow on the ground. you couldn't slip on this if you tried. absurd, chicken little decision! FCPS administrators have moved from ill-considered calls to ones that would get anyone in another job fired. completely incompetent!

Call one of them and ask if they can babysit since they are off too.

I mean that in all honestly. We have a nanny for our youngest still, so we usually have school closings covered. But she was off last week and for some dumb reason it didn't occur to me until the end of the day we were closed that I should have called on the neighborhood girls to babysit instead of staying home.
