colleges with laundry services: what?

What's this?!? They make beds? Pick condoms off the floor?

Yep.

Though it's the only Claremont school that provides this service.

When we toured Davidson last year we were informed they were eliminating the free laundry program. We were told by a tour guide at Wake that they have a service (as of last year). What my DS needs is a service that will not only wash and fold his laundry, but also pick it up off the floor! Guess he is in for a rude awakening when he heads to a school without laundry service next year.

Pretty sure thy outsourced the actual cleaning, but it was uncomfortable nonetheless. I told my mom to cancel it and I did my own laundry.

I understand that you do not want strangers go through your laundry or come across as an elitist BUT I am sure some students were appreciating the fact that they could earn money doing this job.

Nothing about the PP's post was elitist. PP was just describing how it worked. Get a grip and stop trying to find issues when there are none.

Reading comprehension, please. I did not say p(pp) was elitist. I am saying that there could be 2 possible reasons for someone not using the service (among many) - but, it could be that some students actually depended on providing these services and getting paid for it.

Except that's not exactly how work study works. Work study money is a form of financial aid that comes from the federal government. Most colleges end up with more work study students than they have jobs that need doing, so they end up making up jobs to keep everyone busy. I had friends in college whose work study job was to make sure no one walked into the library with food in their hands. They didn't check pockets or look in bags. They sat by the entrance and were supposed to look at people, but in reality they just did their homework.

During the season or all year?

The University of Wisconsin Madison has a service called Lazybones Laundry that you can use for a fee. The regular laundry rooms are now on line so you can check if there is a washer or dryer open or if your laundry is done you can be notified. The wonders of technology.

Wow. Way to prepare students for the world.

My kids are both college athletes, and they get laundry service for uniforms and practice clothes, but they're not supposed to include other clothes in the wash. Occasionally kids will do this -- perhaps intentionally or perhaps not -- and coaches will call them on it. It usually ends up being a great source of teasing for some time to come.

PP here. I was misinformed He played hockey and the hockey team runs a laundry service at Midd. Hockey players got free laundry all year while others had to pay. He thinks athletes may have gotten a discounted rate? May have changed in the past few years (he graduated in 2006). Sorry about that!
