My mom got me the laundry service at Penn 18 years ago. I felt weird about it. Work study students would pick up and deliver the laundry from your dorm. Pretty sure thy outsourced the actual cleaning, but it was uncomfortable nonetheless. I told my mom to cancel it and I did my own laundry.
I understand that you do not want strangers go through your laundry or come across as an elitist BUT I am sure some students were appreciating the fact that they could earn money doing this job.
Nothing about the PP's post was elitist. PP was just describing how it worked. Get a grip and stop trying to find issues when there are none.
Reading comprehension, please. I did not say p(pp) was elitist. I am saying that there could be 2 possible reasons for someone not using the service (among many) - but, it could be that some students actually depended on providing these services and getting paid for it.
Except that's not exactly how work study works. Work study money is a form of financial aid that comes from the federal government. Most colleges end up with more work study students than they have jobs that need doing, so they end up making up jobs to keep everyone busy. I had friends in college whose work study job was to make sure no one walked into the library with food in their hands. They didn't check pockets or look in bags. They sat by the entrance and were supposed to look at people, but in reality they just did their homework.
