America is a melting pot, remember? and religious liberty is built into the constitution.

Fwiw, my DH is Jewish, so this shiksa is allowed to have a menorah in her house.

Even so, the Jews and Catholics share the Old Testament so there's a lot of overlap. Having attended catholic school K through 12 and had religion class every single flipping day, I know a ton about the Jewish religion (Old Testament, remember?), so what's the big deal if Christians pull out a menorah and explain the tradition and ritual to their kids?

If you think the Jewish Religion is the "Old Testament" you are nuts.

I said we share the OT, so there's a great deal of overlap in our religious studies. Ie: DH and I learned a lot of the same stories growing up in Hebrew school and catholic school. Fact.

menorah?

You know the Jews would think you're ridiculous, right?

I call troll. This is crazy! Why would it be ridiculous for a Catholic to have a menorah?
I belive it shows respect and acceptance of other's beliefs.

Give me a break. You have too much time on your hands, PP.

Signed_ A Jewish woman with Catholic in laws, whom have a loving, respectful relationship.

Jew here. I don't think it's shameful, but I do think it's silly and a little bizarre. So I don't do it. Other people can do what they want. The end.

I am an atheist and I put up a Christmas tree and a menorah! I like celebrating traditions and don't care what the religious fanatics think about it! I also incorporate other cultural traditions into my holidays.

Per today's WaPo, one-third of all Jews put up Christmas trees. More than I would have guessed.

What religion were you born into. It is very different if you grew up Christian vs Jewish.

I had various forms of Christianity around me, but my immediate family was not religious. They do believe in God, but not a topic of discussion in our house.

But if you go back to the survey, most of those people are in interfaith marriages.

Right, I don't know any Jewish families (no interfaith marriage, conversion) who put up a tree.
