this could be a good thing.

Hey PP, you are a bigot. You make me sad and you aren't at all funny.

Yours truly,
A Catholic, married to a Jewish man with wonderful, strongly identifying Jewish in-laws.

another example of dilution: a Catholic/Jewish marriage

a good thing

Ah yes, 'tis the season for trolls. Something about the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas always brings a particular type of pot-stirrer, the anti-Christian and anti-Jewish pot-stirrers, out from under the bridge. To mix a few metaphors.

Fortunately, the tolerant and open-minded people show up too. Including the ones on this thread - thank you!

It's kind of pathetic. Maybe it goes back to the days when many Jews were trying to fit in by WASPifying themselves. Now, even most WASPs hate themselves.

I think it's ridiculous and shameful.

Just remember American Trinitarians picked it up from a Unitarian minister in New England. It really is for anyone who wants one.

The problem is that more Jewish blood has been spilled in the name of Christianity/Jesus that anything else. Why on earth would a Jew celebrate Jesus' birthday?

Because
a. It's not Jesus' birthday
b. It's a pagan holiday
c. It's a cultural thing..a gift thing...a seasonal thing
You know it's so funny how it all comes down in the end to a friggin tree. Whatever people do or don't do religiously during the year is all disregarded and the tree takes over. It's unbelievable. Fa la la la la

My BIL and SIL are Muslim and celebrate Christmas. BIL even dresses up as Santa for the kids. Let people celebrate as they wish.

And all the Jewish families I know who do it are culturally Jewish but haven't set foot in a temple in decades.

Mind your own business, OP.

Signed,

Catholic with a menorah

menorah?

You know the Jews would think you're ridiculous, right?

Some Jews spend entirely too much time telling each other they are bad Jews because they did something wrong, or didn't do something right.

OP, you are a bad Jew for calling other people bad Jews. The Talmud doesn't forbid having a decorated pine tree in one's house. The end.

To 18:58 - Why???

Fwiw, my DH is Jewish, so this shiksa is allowed to have a menorah in her house.

Even so, the Jews and Catholics share the Old Testament so there's a lot of overlap. Having attended catholic school K through 12 and had religion class every single flipping day, I know a ton about the Jewish religion (Old Testament, remember?), so what's the big deal if Christians pull out a menorah and explain the tradition and ritual to their kids?

Why can't you just accept that Jesus is the Messiah?

I'm half Catholic and half Jewish, obviously not by birth. Is it weird I have a Festivus pole?
