What's the deal with Robert Griffin III?

RGIII benched and Colt will take on the Colts.

Weren't there quotes from the coaching staff basically saying that on certain plays he wasn't even taking the right drops (in football the timing of a play can depend on the QB taking the right number of steps backwards after receiving the snap) and not knowing which receivers were supposed to be where on a given play?

This is about more than just "footwork," the guy doesn't seem to know the basics of the playbook despite that being his only job. And the excuses are ridiculous - it's hard to work in a new system with a new coach. Ummmm, the two other QBs, despite havnig a lot less talent than Griffin, at least seem to know how the plays work.

I don't know what's going on. He seems like a smart guy.

I think it was after the Tampa game. Gruden was pretty clear/straight on how F-off RG's footwork is. I don't think RG ever learned proper techniques. I like this new coach though. He doesn't BS too much, which I like.

There's been far and fewer black QBs in the past than whites but this generation probably won't harbor any HOF bound QBs. It's way too early to tell about Russell Wilson. Some blacks who've had moderate success: Daunte Culpeper, Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb, Doug Williams, and others who i might be missing but definitely not HOF worthy.

So the discussion on whether blacks make good NFL QBs is debatable. Time will tell, I guess.

The reports I hear say RG3 thinks he is not the problem...it's the people around him.

You can't discuss RGIII without figuring out what has changed between his rookie season, when he was fantastic by any measure, and today.

You can't say he just a good college QB and doesn't have the tools for the NFL.

So what changed? Injuries? Stopped listening to coaches?

Yes, you can, because that happens all. the. time.

Sure. But his rookie year DOESN'T happen all the time.

Well, yes, injuries and the fact that in 2012 he was new and other teams hadn't figured out how to defend against him yet. And yes, seeing as how he and Snyder became buddy buddy he might very well think he doesn't have to listen to coaches now.

Compare RG3 story to Tony Romo. Romo was nothing and worked his butt off to play in college and then again to play in NFL.

I think his rookie season seemed like a fluke but if I remember correctly some of his best plays where when he ran it himself. After being rocked by injury I think that ended pretty quickly- he seems to panic more- and I blame Snyder for helping to create his bad attitude towards his teammates and coaches... he made RG3 untouchable and therefore he didn't have to work as hard as everyone else, stopped growing...

RGMe is a dunce. He got drunk over all of the media attention and a freak freshman NFL season. Even blew off an exclusive invite to a dinner with the POTUS and the First Lady, opting to kick-it with Snyder and his wife for a night on the town at Cafe Milano. Remember? That's where Snyder insisted that all the admirers call him "Robert" instead of his initials.

I'm totally loving the recent turn of events for Robert.

As to his new bitter attitude and outbursts, I think this can be attributed also to the fact this is his first experience with failure in sports.

He has led a charmed life. Always a great football player, an Olympic caliber sprinter...he has never really experienced this type of adversity. And seemingly he is not equipped to handle it.

I feel bad for him, but he also doesn't seem to be doing much to change it. Blaming others will not make things come together again.
