Neighbor threatening neighborhood dogs with large (over 5') stick

Assaulting a dog which is on their own property is a very interesting topic. I bet the SPCA and the like would LOVE to hear about this; and issue some hefty fines. Fines that would result in a permanent record - animal abuse and assault NOT being the least of it.

Can this guy afford a good - no a great lawyer? Because he is going to need it.

To reiterate: "walks along the grass line of the properties" = not trespassing. "stick he is waving at dogs" = not hitting or approaching the dogs. "Assaulting a dog which is on their own property" = not possible if not trespassing and only waving a stick. "do NOT come NEAR my dog trying to kill him" = umm, that is all up in your crazy head

I have been terrified by dogs that bark and nearly jump up over worn down fences right next to the sidewalk. Sure the dog was on his own property, but the dog was out of control and posed a danger. I had to drive 2 blocks that I would have loved to walk with my child to preschool because of a terrifying dog, and no sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. I can't even imagine how awful it would have been if it had been an electric fence. The owner was not home and probably had no idea how the dog was breaking down the fence. If I still had to walk that route, I would have called animal control. If I still saw the dog, I would probably carry dog repellent or a stun gun.

We have a crazy old man who walks around the neighborhood waving a stick at every person walking a dog. My neighbors who have had that happened all had their dogs leashed and these incidents happen around the neighborhood, not on his property.

He did it to me once, when my dog was leashed and we were walking along, minding our own business. My dog pays no attention to people walking by her and didn't even notice him waving it at us. I calmly told him to stop what he was doing because if he hit me, or even came close to it, I would let my dog defend me.

He still carries the stick, but he hasn't waved it at me again.

This dog was large and would charge so hard into the wooden fence that the whole thing would shake and pieces had fallen off. It looked like he was close to getting out. As I said, the owners appeared to not be home, I could see only the back of the house where the screens of the porch were completely torn up. It looked like there was a chain on a rope that he was supposed to be attached to, but had broken free or was not attached to it. I would not go anywhere near the house given the dog's behavior. If I somehow knew the owner's phone number, I would have called. BTW, I am a dog owner.

Let me guess: you stood at the fence scratching your head like a complete idiot. You probably even pointed out the dog behavior to uncurious and unconcerned passersby, in an effort to drum up hate.

Here's a suggestion: try NOT walking by THAT house. Because if that owner has cameras, and you are found to have been antagonizing the dog (with or without a stick, up your arse or elsewhere) - then YOU will be found liable. In fact, I would bet there are a bunch of passers by willing to testify, when (not if, but when) this comes to fruition, that YOU were in fact the aggressor. Learn when to say when.

ok so let me get this straight. You live less than two blocks from this "dangerous" animal and you cannot WALK up to the owner's home and express your concern? A loose dog charged me and my 3-year-old when I was 8 months pregnant. I kicked it in the face to get it away from us. The owner (who was rightfully horrified) apologized up and down. Wish I'd had a 5' stick -- it was terrifying.
