Actually, TJ is arguably the most diversified school since this school has kids/parents from all parts of the world including Africa, Caribbean, Far East Asia, Europe, Middle East, Central Asia as well as Hispanics and few other areas. Langley and McLean I think are overwhelmingly white. |
The kids who take the ACT are the ones who do poorly on the SAT. Arguably, by focusing only on the SAT, the scores are artificially inflated. |
ACT is not even considered to be legitimate college aptitude test. |
I think an employee of the College Board has infiltrated this thread. |
Actually, no. TJ already has more Asian students than McLean has white students, and soon will have more Asian students than Langley has white students as well. Just as the term "Asian" includes students from many different countries and backgrounds, so too does "White" in Fairfax County, where it includes, for example, many students from the Middle East and Europe. And there are very few Hispanics and AA students at TJ compared to any other HS in FCPS, except perhaps Langley. |
If kids who take the ACT did poorly on the SATs, that will be reflected in the reported SAT scores. If anything, the option of taking the ACT deflates the reported SAT scores, because students who otherwise might take the SAT and score higher the next time around take the ACT instead. |
I thought one measures how diverse a given school is by looking at the % of non-white students including Asian students since Asians are a minority group? |
Asians are counted as minority group only if it's convenient for whites to do so. |
|
By that standard schools in DC and PG that are 95% AA are more diverse than schools with equal numbers of whites, blacks, Hispanics and Asians. If you say so.
|
Actually, any 8th grader from fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, Prince William and Falls Church (whether from expensive areas or not so expensive areas) may apply to attend TJ but you have to live in certain designated areas to attend Langley and McLean so TJ is more of an equal opportunity place as long as the applicant is qualified. You will almost never get equal number of Asians, blacks, Hispanics and whites at a given school. So, TJ is more equal opportunity/diverse than Langley or McLean. You and your neighbors can move to PG county and contribute to their school diversity if that's what you want. |
People look at TJ based on who ends up there, not who theoretically can apply to the school and get turned away. With less than five percent black and Hispanic students combined, TJ clearly is one of these least diverse schools in the county, and it's only getting less diverse. You think that's fine, so own it and stop with the specious babble. |
Actually the bureaucrats really do think like that...... |
