When we built our current house, three rooms of the first floor and the second floor all have carpet in a off-white grey. We took the carpet sample to the SW and had them mix a paint based on scanning that color. We had them lighten it a shade and we painted a poster board with it and moved it around the first floor. It worked great with the carpets and the ceramic tile that we have in the hallways, kitchen, bathroom. So we painted the first floor and second floor hallways with this. We like how it complements the carpet but being a shade off brightens the room and adds depth where it contrasts with the carpet. So the carpet is slightly darker, the walls are medium and we have white on the ceiling and this helps "lift" the ceiling and accent the light coming in from the windows (and we have a lot of windows). It works great for our space.

Interesting - why did you use carpet?

When we built, we could not do everything we wanted. We chose all of the architectural and construction features with the thought that we could work on the interior later. For example, we opted for the 4' extension on the back of the house, the two extra optional rooms, the master suite with two walk-ins, etc. And we opted to go with fewer upgrades on things such as flooring, cosmetics (such as bathroom fixtures), figuring that those things could be done later while the architectural options could not. We figured we'd wait until we were ready for the second round of flooring and then redo the floors with hardwood. We're getting close to redoing floors and we'll try to redo at least the public rooms on the first floor in hardwoods (we both prefer carpeting on the bedroom level).

BM Revere Pewter. It's a really pretty, light greige color.

We are getting ready to do BM Manchester Tan on the main level. Have Edgecomb Gray in the basement and love it, but wanted something more neutral on the main. We'll see!
