Is is possible to go to an elementary school not in your boundary?

DS is a few years away from school yet, but we're trying to decide if we should move into a different school district. Based on some parent feedback, I'd rather he attend the school in the next boundary over, but I don't know if that's even possible and if so, how hard you have to fight for it.

OP, for what it's worth, if you want to move to a different school district, you will have to move to a different county or state. There is only one school district in Montgomery County: Montgomery County Public Schools.

I would urge OP not to overlook this technical point. No matter what elementary school your child goes to, they will have the exact same curriculum.

Furthermore we on the less wealthy side of the tracks have been given much smaller class sizes, so for comparison GPES has an average class size in first through third grades of 25.5 kids, while RVES has an average class size of 19.6 kids. Kindergarten classes of 15 or 16 are normal, whereas it's more like 23 or more at GPES and others.

To the Greencastle PP, What is it you don't like about Greencastle aside from a lot of AA kids go there?
I have a friend with a kid there who had heard it was a 'bad' school but now her DD is in first grade there and she loves it. The Mom is very happy with the teachers and the school in general.

I wish we were zoned for Rock View, but we're one over. OP, the grass is always greener!

I went Rock View ES 20 some years ago. I was not impressed then but things may have changed. I was bullied all throughout my time there and the teachers did nothing about it. Fortunately, I did manage to be fairly successful, and will send my kids to Wayside ES. Hopefully, they will have much better experiences than I had.

I think it's highly likely that things changed over 20-some years.

OP here. This has been very informative. Thank you all for your advice and experience. As I said, this is all new to us so it's all helpful. I will definitely look closer at Rock View and am encouraged to hear more positive things about it.

To the posters with children there, do you know if Rock View also has paraeducator or aides in the classroom?

When did PP say she didn't want to send her kids to school with "too many" AA kids?

All schools have paraeducators. No schools have them in every class, if that's what you're asking. Rock View most likely has 1 paraeducator who works with the entire grade level, so they may be in one k classroom once a week for a few hours or something.

Rock View is a good elementary, but the administration there tends to do the bare minimum. There have been some especially troubling situations in the first grade this year. The staff mismanaged a teachers leave situation and a revolving door of substitutes are leading to a lost year for those children.

Is Garrett Park, Parkwood, Oakland Terrace, or Luxmanor better? Maybe, but I urge you to look at the elementary schools themselves as opposed to the Middle and high schools they lead too.

Can you rent? Or buy a small crappy condo?
