New parent here trying to learn how the public school system works. DS is a few years away from school yet, but we're trying to decide if we should move into a different school district. Based on some parent feedback, I'd rather he attend the school in the next boundary over, but I don't know if that's even possible and if so, how hard you have to fight for it.
OP, for what it's worth, if you want to move to a different school district, you will have to move to a different county or state. There is only one school district in Montgomery County: Montgomery County Public Schools.
I would urge OP not to overlook this technical point. No matter what elementary school your child goes to, they will have the exact same curriculum. Furthermore we on the less wealthy side of the tracks have been given much smaller class sizes, so for comparison GPES has an average class size in first through third grades of 25.5 kids, while RVES has an average class size of 19.6 kids. Kindergarten classes of 15 or 16 are normal, whereas it's more like 23 or more at GPES and others.
