Currently, some customers may notice a musty odor and taste, which is caused by algae byproducts that appear seasonally in the Potomac River and drinking water reservoirs. The concentrations of these byproducts are extremely low and are not harmful to human health. The odor and taste should subside in the next few weeks with colder temperatures. In the meantime, a carbon filter may minimize the taste and odor.

| I can even smell it in my tap water when I turn on the shower or brush my teeth. Gross. Have also noticed that it's in every restaurant tap water I've tasted since August. Algae and mold two different things. How does one get the city to address this? |
| I think DC water tastes like dirt but I use a Brita filter and that cuts it down. |
