PP, have you spoken to the lower school head? We're another "new family" at an independent and the administration has checked in with me to see how things are going. Remember, you are PAYING and they WANT your kid to succeed. Don't just grumble on DCUM. Have you met with the people whom you met with during the admissions process? Speak up now! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Son started PK3 at Sacred Heart Bilingual and can't wait to see his teachers and classmates every day. Even after just two weeks there, he already seems so much more mature and independent. It has been a great experience so far.

We're very happy with our new school, though I have been surprised by the little contact we've had with DC's teachers (early elementary). I was expecting an individual meeting during the first couple of weeks of school, but perhaps most teachers at privates sit down with you once a few weeks or months have passed so that there is more to talk about? We had an early sit down at our past public school, which is why I'm surprised. What has your experience been? I just thought that we would have an early opportunity to talk about our children more specifically (for even 10min), that's all. Help me set my expectations?

11:19 PP here. I should mention that we have had big group meetings with the teachers, just not more individualized meetings. Not sure if this is standard for the little ones who are new to a school?

So far, we are really pleased. We switched our oldest from public to private. So far we are really happy and the transition has been a smooth one. While my DC misses the old school, DC runs out the door and comes homes talking a mile a minute. The younger are still in our local public and doing well too.

I'm one of the PPs...still happy but I really think they coddle the kids too much. Public was too much the opposite extreme, but I wish they were stricter. Maybe we'll try a Catholic school next time.

Started at a Catholic school this year and DC is so happy. Structure (the previous public was chaotic) but still fun, and more individualized attention.

PP here, our middle schooler has had two quizzes so far. Friends at public middle school have had quizzes in every subject.

Yes, they have conferences but other than that I think expecting an individual meeting before that is too much and not needed.

If you have questions, email the teacher, set up a conf call time or meet up briefly after class for a few minutes.

Happy so far with 9th, but Homecoming has thrown us for a loop - new to the school which is a k-12, so unsure about dances, has a group going but didn't make the cut to a party etc etc. And it's only 3 weeks in! It will all be fine, but wish there wasn't a big even so soon in the year.
