I hate packing, shopping, and cleaning up my child's lunch

This is so odd. You know that you don't meet the income requirements but you are still going to fill out the form? Are you just hoping that they don't actually read the form and it will get approval anyways?

Yes.

Why?

Why what?

Why do you want to do what you're proposing?

I hate shopping for stuff to put in my child's lunchbox, but even more, I hate cleaning it up and throwing the food I put in there away. He wants to eat the school lunch, but I don't want to waste $3 a day on the crap they serve at the schools either.

I pack the stuff he asks for, but he still won't eat it. I'd feel better about him throwing it away if I wasn't spending time, money and energy packing it myself. I know the free lunches end up in the trash, but if I'm not paying for it, it won't matter to me as much. Anyone ever fill out that form they mail out and have it get rejected? I obviously will fill it out with honest answers, but I know we don't meet the income requirements they list on the form.

WTH are you talking about? Your kids needs to eat, figure out a way. And seriously $15/week? If my kid would eat it and it was any good for him, I'd pay that in a heartbeat.

Also, get the kid involved. My 6 YO empties what's left if his lunch as one of his jobs.

+1 mine dumps her leftovers at school and brings home an empty lunch bag. My child enjoys the school lunch school lunch so she gets to have it 2-3x /week.

So...it's because you're lazy and cheap?

Yeah, I'm lazy and cheap. What, are you perfect?

And by the way, what a double fucking standard. If I came on here and said I was eligible for the free lunch, what would you call me? What standard would you hold me to then? So is everyone that doesn't want to pack or pay for lunch lazy and cheap? Or just the ones who admit they don't want to pack or pay?

No, but at least I pack my kids' lunches myself.

I don't have any problems being lazy and cheap; in fact, I am kind of both.

BUT just because I'm cheap doesn't mean I go over to the Salvation Army Santa and empty out his bucket. Free meals are meant for children whose families can't feed them. Trying to get a free meal goes beyond "cheap" and into the "scammer" category.

I normally hate when people say things like this, but I 'm going to say it anyway.... This is exactly what is wrong with our country. I cannot imagine just accepting a "free lunch". It's not free. Someone is paying for it. If we were poor, I would accept the help temporarily, but it would never feel right to me. I would certainly never, never, never consider applying for it if I didn't need it.

Add to that the fact that the OP is, by her own admission, too lazy to pack ONE lunch. We have five children, I packed for five kids plus my DH every day. It took about ten minutes and was probably the easiest task of the day. Not bragging because there is nothing brag-worthy about packing a lunch.

How much longer are we going to allow people to suck at the government tit? At some point we are going to have to expect people to become contributing members of society.

OP here, I don't take anything from anyone. In fact, I donate more to charity than a lot of people do. I also do volunteer work. I also take great care of my family. There is so much fraud and waste in the programs that are run by the federal government, so I just wanted to ask if anyone filled out that form and got approved even if they were not eligible.

My best guess is that if my son got to eat in the cafeteria every day, he'd soon grow tired of it and be begging for a packed lunch again. I grew up eating free school lunch and it sucked. I just wanted to know if anyone has done this. I love how everyone is attacking me for asking though. I'm not sure why it surprised me lol.

I am also lazy and I am cheap. These are not issues when they only impact you and your family. But you are talking about being also a cheat. The program is for those that meet the income limit. Everyone else in the country pays for those lunches - even if they too are lazy and cheap - so that poor kids do not go hungry. For you to use this program when you do not qualify is wrong and undermines support for the program since people see how it can be abused. Is us not wrong for those who qualify to use it.

Show me where I said I'd lie on the form to get qualified. I said I'd considered filling it out (honestly. Look at my OP. I said I'd be honest on the form), and see if they'd give it to me. I'm simply curious if it would happen since I know there is lots of waste and fraud in these programs.

And so do I. Should I give you a gold medal?

Even if they did give it to you, why would you take it, knowing that you don't really qualify? If you are really angry at the government waste, why don't you try to stop it, rather than take advantage of it?

Maybe the best thing to do would be to fill it out, and if you get approved, take it to the front office and ask why you were approved when you clearly don't qualify. Maybe that will make the school office (or whoever it is that approves the forms) tighten the reigns better.
