I hate packing, shopping, and cleaning up my child's lunch

I feel a lot better about packing his lunches now because the food isn't going to waste. I don't mind cleaning it up or shopping for it either, as long as he is actually eating it! He also hasn't been coming home complaining that he's hungry each day either. His class has a very late lunch. They don't get to eat until like 1:30 or so. I guess by that time he is pretty hungry since he has breakfast at home at like 7:30 or 8 am. He hasn't even asked me once if he could buy the school lunch. Sorry to anyone that was offended by my rant about wanting the free lunches, I was just getting anxiety about summer coming to an end and having to deal with all the stresses that come with being back to school.

Glad to hear all went well. Same for us. I am the PP who mentioned a thermos for a hot lunch. We tried it once this week and worked great. Good luck with the rest of the year to you and your DC.

I just buy the kids those lunchables and a packet of M&Ms for dessert. So easy and they love them!

Thank you. I didn't try the thermos, but I made the main entree part as a hot meal (like I think you may have suggested) and just wrapped it in foil and put it in a container separate from the fruit and drink. He said it wasn't warm when it was lunch, but he didn't mind. We did a mini turkey burger one day, a small pizza today, and a small piece of chicken one day, and Mac n cheese one day. I will keep doing these kinds of lunches as long as he will eat it. Good luck to you & your family as well !

I may try that sometimes, but if I can get him to eat something homemade & with fruit and/or vegetables, it's better for him. He's not a picky eater at home at all, I'm really lucky. That's why the lunch boycott made me so frustrated over the past few years. It looks like that might finally be changing for me though, if this week was any indication. I sure hope so.

Anonymous wrote:$3 a day is too much for a school lunch. $1 a day would be way more affordable across the board. Even if they kept it under $2, a lot more people could and would afford it.

School lunch is gross at $3 a day. Imagine the even LOWER quality of food it lunch cost $2!

"Ground Beef" would be 100% pink slime instead of the current 50%.

Not pp, but wtf? Just don't serve them to your kids! No need for the quadruple eye roll & bitchy comment!

Glad to hear it is working out so far. I think the reason you got a lot of negativity is that you gave the impression that because your son wasn't eating, that he should get a free lunch. A picky eater is not the reason to qualify, low income is. If you think the qualifying income amount should be changed, there are avenues to register a complaint.

Lol, well, I didn't think he SHOULD get it, I just WISHED he could. It was just my feeling of dread and frustration about summer coming to an end and having to do all the shopping and packing etc again. But yeah, it's not like we are rich and can afford buying it every day, and even if we could, $3 a day is way not worth it for what they are serving. I wouldn't bother asking them to change the qualifying income amount, my logic tells me that this would just lead to another price increase for the cost of lunches without any improvement in the quality of what they are serving.

I saw the thread title and was all ready to support you, because I have making my kid's lunch too. But WOW. Are you real?

How much of this thread did you read? I'm assuming you read the first post, possibly the first page, and then gave up?
