JC Penney's is awful. They use old cameras, and you have to try to pick out your portraits on this antiquated program on the computer with fuzzy images. My son was put by a dark background (he had dark clothes on) and the pictures came out horrible!

Jeni at Lola & Me is great! Service is awesome and the product (images) were perfect. Her prices are much more reasonable. |
Hands down Susan Braswell Photography. I've used her 2 years in a row and just recently booked my 3rd session with her later this summer. Her outdoor work just shines and I never thought I photographed well until I saw my slideshow. Amazing!
Well worth every penny, the website is http://www.susanbraswellphotography.com I love her blog too, she posted a sneak peek for me I think we are there in the month of July?? Fun reading if have time to go back. |
Do any of the recommended photographers turn over the files? I hate this practice of the photographer retaining the rights to images of my baby (or wedding). I would rather pay a higher professional fee, and have full access to the files. |
Amanda LaMartina is wonderful. She took our family portrait. Her prices are very reasonable (do not want to spend $1000 on portrait+prints!!). Check her out: http://www.lamartinaphotography.com/ |
Another fan of Susan Braswell's work ... would pay her prices for prints than the crappy cd images I got from my wedding photographer 4 years ago. Thanks for the reminder-emailing her now. |
Another vote for Jeni at Lola & Me. Her work is awesome. Service is top notch. And prices are extremely reasonable. |
We've had good results with Kortney Ringel (a DUCM) and Erin Fogarty:

We hired Nancy with Little Prints Photography. She has a beautiful studio in Potomac but was willing to work with us (we live in Arlington). Also, she gave us a CD with over 100 images of our baby and they're gorgeous!!

The file turnover: I'd try Abby Greenawalt, www.abbygreenawalt.com. She's a well known portrait photographer, and her kids work is amazing. She's also reasonable and when she shot my son, she gave me the CD. |
Another vote for Lola & Me. Jeni's work beautiful and she is so helpful and accommodating. We plan on returning year after year. |
We've used Kerry of kandrphotography.com for several sessions with our son. She's great with kids and takes excellent photos. She'll come to you if you like. She gives you the cd (or can print photos if you prefer). I think the $1000 estimate is crazy high! |
I have used Rebecca Emily photography for portraits of my kids for the past 3 years. I have been extremely pleased with our photos and would high recommend her. The prices are reasonable and I think she does sell the CD of pictures too.

I would recommend Julie Kubal. She has a photojournalism background so the pictures are more documentary style, which I like, rather than the forced posed style. She captures great candids and the quality is exceptional. Her website is www.juliekubal.com |
Love Kaileen Galhouse's pictures but she's pricey and does not turn over the files. That said, we LOOOOVED her pics of our baby.
