My beef is - I feel that CPES are too lenient in their handling of it (compared to other Vienna schools - and no, I don't have the data! I do have a daughter at another Vienna Elementary school but it's mainly from talking to other parents). Some of the "incidents" my younger daughter has told me about at CPES I feel should have been dealt with more severely.

No school is perfect - CPES does have a lot going for it, it's small and friendly and generally has a great staff, but it is not that academically challenging and it does have discipline issues.

I'm not going to haul my daughter out and I love the fact that it's diverse, I just wouldn't necessarily choose it if I had free choice.

Just being honest!

Wow! What hard hitting data! We've got some report from a few parents and from a kid who likely were not privy to consequences that may have been meted out privately.I certainly hope your daughters are being taught how to support a statement better than their mother was taught.

OP did not ask for data. She wanted to hear from people who know the school. If you want data, that's easy, you just go to the FCPS.

This isn't about OP. This is about the poster on page 1 at 23:25 and 11:04 who threw out the absurd statements about how discipline issues were handled at Cunningham Park versus other Vienna schools. It was reckless and inappropriate gossip. When prompted to provide "data" to support her statements, she said that her daughter reported a few incidents. And based on a couple of incidents reported by her daughter (who knows what age), this poster thought it was fine to make statements about how CP handles discipline differently than other school. Again, I certainly hope her children are developing better critical thinking and commiunication skills than those of their mother.

pp - you seem to have a vested interest. Any connection to the school?

I've had kids at CP and they are now at another public ES in FFX co. I can say it is not at all academically challenging and the resources go to the highest needs population. Hope they make a local level four, that should at least put more focus on academics.

How long ago were your kids at CP?

No, other than being an FCPS teacher. Not at Cunningham Park, nor have I ever been. I just get bothered when people throw out ridiculous, broad statements about a school that have little evidence to support them.

It seemed like the OP was open to anecdotes and that's what the other poster offered. You should probably chill out.

The FCPS teach is probably sick of unfounded gossip started by parents. The wrong statements and gossip spreads like a disease. This is true for any school. Maybe you should chill out because he/she has a valid point.

If she had said something like "There was an incident at CP with my kid that I felt was handled poorly," then fine. It's her anecdote that she's offering. But instead she made a blanket statement that discipline wasn't handled well at CP and would be handled better at other Vienna schools. Sorry, but that's just nonsense and baseless.

He/she could have expressed it far more politely. As it turns out, the PP's comments are consistent with the fact that CP is generally considered the least desirable elementary school in Vienna.

People I know all like the school. We don't live there, but I think it and Vienna Elementary are the best school locations in Vienna. I like that so many kids can walk to Cunningham Park.

I love Cunningham Park. There nothing wrong with the discipline there.

OP here. Thank you all. My DC will be in K. I know that no school is perfect and I am glad to hear so much good stuff about the school.
