Moving to Falls Church

What about the shooting at Marshall a couple years ago? Theere are no gangs there?

My understanding (not from personal experience but from another board where it was discussed) is that the Marshall shooting did not involve Marshall students. And I also heard that it was not just a couple years ago, but much longer (closer to 10?).

People who actually know anything about Marshall tend to give it very good reviews. It's the gossip and inaccurate facts that cause the problems.

Thanks so much to everyone who has cleared up the rumors about Marshall. I live in Vienna, but am in the Marshall jurisdiction. My children are young now- 2 & 4, but I had concerns about Marshall because the negativity associated with it. In fact, I was considering leaving my wonderful neighborhood & neighbors to move to the Madison or Mclean school zones. Thanks again for your positive input.

I have been teaching at Marshall since 2000 and the shooting was WAY before my time. And like a pp said, it did not involve any Marshall students. The person who was eventually shot fled into the Marshall parking lot to get away from whoever the shooter was because he thought he would be safe. Unfortunately, he was shot anyway, but it had NOTHING to do with the school itself. It is crazy to me that so many people refer back to something that happened so long ago and is based more on rumors than fact. Like I said in previous post, Marshall is a really great school. The IB program is outstanding and is growing every year. I believe the number of IB diploma graduates we had this year was in the top 10 in the nation or something like that. It is also a small school so students and teachers really get to know each other. I have never taught anywhere else so I can't really compare it to anything, but I know there is nothing to be afraid of there at all. And, we are scheduled for renovation starting in 2011 so by the time most of your kids reach high school, there will be an almost brand new school.

Thanks, PP. That is really great news. We had pretty much planned to move by HS, but I had mixed emotions because I love my neighborhood and I want my DC in a smaller, more diverse HS. The more I learn about Marshall, the more convinced I am that we will stay where we are.

22046 does not feed into McLean HS - it's Falls Church City and feeds into Falls Church City schools.

Parts of 22046 and 22042 feed into the McLean pyramid. You can find maps on the FCPS website, as well as plug in an address to get the school.

To the person who claimed Falls Church High is a "horrible, horrible school"....please give examples to back up such a bold statment. Also, I am curious as to your experience and connection with the school?
