| PP here---The other thing is that's it's close to Routes 7, 29, 50, 66, and Wilson. 495 is a three minute drive off of 66 from that exit. |

Falls Church is a big area that is a great place to live. Here's a run down.
Falls Church City has its own taxes and a great school system. (George Mason high). Most of 22046 is in this zip code. Falls Church parts of Fairfax County are zips 22046, 22043, 22042, 22041 at least. Here's what I know of these areas. I work in MD, so I only wanted to be in the parts north of route 50 and rt7 since it's much easier to go north on 495 or GW Parkway from these areas. I live in 22043. This zip is Pimmit Hills, and some parts of it are in between McLean east of 123 but some parts are right on the N Arlington border/Williamsburg area, which is where we are and I love it. Houses here are generally in the $500-$850k range, but there are some McMansions of course. We go to McLean HS which is an awesome school. (Although we will probably be the poor kids in Mclean high because the other kids are from Mclean.) the majority of 22043 goes to Marshall High, which is also a good school but doesn't have as good a rep. as Mclean high. Also, some of the houses are smaller/more run down and more like in the $400-$500k range. The rest of Falls church zips 22042, 22041 are south of 50 and still Ffx county schools so still good. 22041 is sleepy hollow, mostly. Big lots, but harder to commute from, IMO, b/c you have to go through 7 corners for the most part. also look at Mclean zip 22101, there are some good homes there, east of 123. |
| Parts of Sleepy Hollow fall into 22042. To OP, drive up and down, as well as onto neighboring streets off of, Sleepy Hollow Road. |
| I wouldn't move to a house that goes to JEB Stuart though. I've had many talks with teachers there, and the school is definitely challenged by its multicultural students. I've heard that while there are many good students, the language barrier is dificult for students and teachers alike, as they have so many different languages spoken in the homes around there. |
| A friend of mine lives in zip code 22043 and this feeds to McLean H.S. Not Falls Church City. |
| We live in Falls Hill development (near WFC metro and the Don Beyer). It's a great development. Feeds into Marshall High, which I hear is on the upswing (my DC are not that old yet). |
PP, I teach at Marshall and it is a wonderful school. We have the IB (International Baccalaureate) program as well as the Marshall Academy which has a wide variety of classes such as marketing, hotel management, Chinese, Network Engineering, etc. I know that Marshall has somewhat of a bad rap, but I can't quite figure out why. If you look at test scores, they are very high. We have many students receiving the full IB diploma each year and the numbers are climbing every year. I believe most of the issues with Marshall date back to some gang issues we had back in the 80s and 90s, but I have been there since 2000 and never have felt unsafe. And, we are finally scheduled for renovation starting in 2010, so by the time your kids get there, the school should be in excellent condition! |
| I also live in Falls Hill and second the recommendation. We were originally looking to buy near East Falls Church/North Arlington, but when our realtor showed us this neighborhood, we fell in love. It's a family-friendly oasis that's convenient to everything, but quiet. Our kids are too little for school, but we anticipate sending them to the local schools- the elementary is Shrevewood, the high school is Marshall, can't remember the middle school. (For the PP who said 22043 feeds into the McLean schools- we're also in 22043, but south of Rte. 7- if you really have your heart set on a particular school, go on the Fairfax County or FC website and get the school district maps) |
22046 does not feed into McLean HS - it's Falls Church City and feeds into Falls Church City schools. |
You are wrong. |
| I live in Falls Church City and love it. Lots of places to walk to (important for a former Capitol Hillite!) very family friendly, very good schools. And not as crazy wealthy as McLean, which was the other place we were looking. |
| Wow! All of my neighbors are on here. We also live in Falls Hill!!! I love it. It's a nice development with great people. Not stuffy or snobby. It's in 22043 (so-called "faux Falls Church") but it is not run down at all!!! I'm actually psyched that it feeds into Marshall (although my kids are not that age yet). I'm hoping my DC want to do the IB. |

Another Falls Hill poster here! We should all meet up one day!
We love the neighborhood - we can walk along the WO&D trail into the City, we can walk to the elementary school (Shrevewood), Idylwood Park, and a nearby pool club. And I'm happy about Marshall High as well - it's a fairly small HS with an excellent IB program. Of course, we haven't even hit preschool yet, so we have aways to go! |
| Keep your kids out of Falls CHurch High School and Luther Jackson MIddle. Both are horrible, horrible schools. |
