| None of the insults people hurl at me on DCUM upsets me. I've been called a troll or Nazi because people don't agree with my opinions. I never use profanity or call people idiots. As a black person I feel free to post things I would never say in real life. |
Those are c**ts, you idiot. |
| Infected Cunts, you doornob. |
I agree, these people are total idiots. But yes, there ARE victims and abusers. Some people get their feelings hurt -- I'm not one of them. But the jerks are bullies in the sense that they feel entitled to waste our time with their useless posts. We ALL lose when some troll wastes our time insulting another poster instead of addressing the thread topic. Or when we have to wade through pages of posts where some young mom is trying to figure out why she was ridiculed for asking where to put her kid in pre-K. Or did you see the thread today where some foreigner had to start a thread asking if it's OK to use the c@#$t word in the US, because she saw it on that dog thread! Somebody explain to me why we should tolerate these people. Most of us did not join this board for this type of crap. And why I should just leave the kitchen? Please, let me at least whine about them here -- that's my catharsis! In the best case, somebody here will recognize themselves for the huge timewaster they are, and change their behavior. |
Good for you in not using profanity or calling people idiots (or worse) back. |
| I like the phrase "Mean Moms" better. FWIW. |
| Geez, when I say idiot, that is me holding back. Seriously. |
Intellectual sword fights are great, that's why I come here too. So you must realize that all the ad hominem attacks that go on around here are not "intellectual" at all. You probably learned in high school, like I did, that name-calling is what you do when you don't have any arguments left. The person who does it has already lost the debate but is a sore loser. These ad hominem attacks are just another incarnation of the playground bully, who uses his fists instead of words. So I guess I don't excuse this behavior. I used to shrug it off, but in the past few days there have been so many abusive posters on different threads that I'm getting sick of these bullies. |
| Bullies are the price you pay for an anonymous forum. Jeff can block them, but where does he draw the line? Name-calling is obnoxious and immature, but who hasn't done it at one time or another? The same poster can be kind and thoughtful on one thread, and stupid and juvenile on another. We're all human, and flawed. I just read past the time-wasting, silly, name-calling posts. Sometimes people are very helpful and their posts are interesting, even moving. Ignore the bullies. Don't respond and they will go away. That's what I tell my kids, and occasionally they listen. |
| Agreed -- I read thru the mean posts and smirk to myself and call them a name (not the c word!) - but I don't post it!! I find it funny that some posts go so off track w/ the mean thing. Don't we read thru these things to get ideas on how to be BETTER parents and people in general? Anonymity gives so much power to people who really are idiots -- they are few and far between but generous with their posts. |

I'm 20:55, and I launched a huge gripe there. Now I feel better! Back to scrolling past the time-wasting idiots. Yes, sometimes I too get the impression that it's just one or two posters who are everywhere with the same dumb posts. |
