We just bought a house. And I just lost my job.

+1. Hold off on getting new furniture and home improvements. Have a little housewarming for your family and friends. You'll be ok![/quote

Yes. I ordered a new sectional sofa for the family room, and thankfully I entered the wrong security code from my credit card. Cancelled the purchase when they called to verify.

I anticipate lots of cook outs because I don't have to furnish the back yard.

You do know that this kind of pablum "things happen for a reason" makes people want to punch you?

Good luck, OP. That sucks.

I am sorry OP.

Hope you find a new one soon.

Or that things work out for you in another way.

Hugs to you and your family.

People love cookouts! We still haven't furnished the dining room and it's been five years since we moved iin. The kids love having an empty room to play in. Congratulations on your new home!

OP here. I really have appreciated everyone chiming in. A pillar of support from strangers is nice. I don't want to lean too much on my friends.

Please. Tell that to all the victims of the Malaysian Airlines flight that ended up at the bottom of the ocean, or to the victims of the ferry that sunk in Korea killing hundreds of teenagers. Tell that to their families.

Sure, things happen for a reason. What a smart statement! There's always a reason, but it's not always a positive one. Murder happens for a reason, incompetence happens for a reason, none of which is positive.

Perhaps you've been reading Voltaire with no sense of irony:

"Private misfortunes make the public good, so that the more private misfortunes there are, the more everything is well."

In terms of the timing good thing it didn't happen before you closed on the house only to have your lender back out of the deal since you no longer have a job.

You will be alright! Everything happens for a reason.

I am positive that there are bigger and better things on the horizon.

Another reader of Voltaire! So much education on this thread!
