Thoughts on the name Orion?

Anonymous
I have never heard it and I do not like it.

It may grow on me, but why take the chance that it will?

If I met a child with this name Id think: parents are wannabe hipsters.

But if the kid and parents were nice and friendly I'd move on to other things.

I recently had a friend in M&A consulting who was lamenting the names of candidates he was receiving resumes for - basically, the gist of the conversation was that there was no way he count hire someone named "Insert Atypical Odd Name" and have them work on the Carlyle Group account. It certainly gave me food for thought and helped knock a few names off our potential names list.

Somebody in another company, who has fewer prejudices, will hire that great candidate named [Atypical Odd Name] and beat the pants off your friend and his clients.

Excluding people from your group of job candidates because you think their name is weird is just stupid.

I love it! I couldn't convince DH. I knew an Orion growing up and never thought it especially strange.

Please don't do this. It's not cool, it's not hip, and your child will only suffer. Not in DC. He will be teased. I am not being mean. I am only trying to gibe sound advice - you did ask.

I think it is awful. Reminds me of onion or maybe oreo cookies or stars… It sounds strange. But if you like it, go for it.

Yup. Plus I know several Carlyle Group employees who wouldn't blink an eye at an atypical name - and one has an atypical name himself. OP's friend is ridiculous

It beats Braxxton.

Many people, sadly, will pronounce it ORE-ee-ahn.

And besides that point, it sounds like you're trying way too hard.

Has your husband tried it out for a few days himself? Report back and see how he likes it as a name.
Anonymous
I like it actually.

Oliver is a very nice name.

Happens to racial and religious minorities all the time.
