With someone who has an undetectable viral load (in blood and semen) and high CD4 numbers, you are extremely unlikely to get HIV even if the condom broke. People with HIV who have consistent and early treatment have pretty much normal life expectancies. The biggest downside is all the side effects of the meds. |

I'm the PP who dated someone with HIV. As another PP mentioned, sexual transmission from someone on meds with an undetectable viral load is virtually impossible - it's called "treatment as prevention". Also, post exposure (if a condom breaks) you can take 30 days of meds to prevent transmission. And there is a new drug called Truvada that can be used daily to prevent infection, so if you are in a LTR with someone who is positive, that is another form of prevention. That being said, everyone's comfort level is different and that's okay. |
