This is absolute BS. These things happen at every high school, with certain groups of kids, but are not at all "part of the culture" at Langley. |
LL sounds similar to the MUN organization, from the latest Saxon Scope written by children that GO to Langley, not their parents "Like with any toxic environment, any organization that arises in these halls is contaminated with hyper-competitive individuals who have the need to put other people down, in and out of their respective club ... Much more to our dismay, however, are the ones that collectively join together to bring people down to raise their own status within Langley's social pyramid." and "The reputation the club has gained is one of arrogance, where they mingle only with themselves and carry with them an aura of superiority. Peaceful discussions in class are often interrupted with the interjecting and rather elitist voice of a MUN-er." Then you flip to next page and there is an essay about how one girl has taken 16 AP courses. These are the type of "leaders" at this school. The bottom feeders get stomped on so others can feel better. So many of the children that our family knows has been stomped on at langley while these parents keep gushing about how nice it is. I have lots of friends with kids at Herndon and they love the school. I know a lot of children at Langley and most of them can't wait to get the hell out of there. The LL and MUN and Case Day are just another way for Langley admins to segregate and promote the top AP and Athletic students. and before, all the stereotypical Great Falls moms, the type of woman who dedicates most of her married life to engineering her children for success solely in the northern virginia bubble, post that their child LOVES langley and this is not really segregation, that the bottom feeders just don't have the grades and deserve to be left out, and how dare you criticize Langley, please take a moment and just read the current Saxon Scope and reflect on what 87% of your kids think. |
If you kid is going to take 16 APs, go to Langley. If your child is not the upper echelon, destined for Stanford, go to Herndon. |

Not at Langley, but it seems that what one reads in the Saxon Scope is more intense navel-gazing than is typical at other high schools, both critical and laudatory. I have to believe this hyper self-consciousness is due to students being acutely aware of how privileged they are, and uncertain as to whether they should view it as a blessing or a curse.
Which is what you see here as well, where the Langley posters dominate threads that start off, for example, with a request for information about another school - Herndon. Perhaps the Langley bashers/boosters locked in perpetual combat on DCUM have more in common than they may realize. Add more SES diversity to the mix, and the conversation naturally starts to change. |
No other high school does LL. | Wow, bitter much about MUN to post twice? Many kids from all around DC, including mine, participated in the most recent conference at Langley and had a great time. |

three times? maybe people will read it this time! |
| I feel sorry for the people clicking on this post to find information on Herndon HS. It's turned in to one all about Langley. |
+1 |
Seems like it gives a good feel for type of parents at langley. |
There is no bullying or drug problem at TJ. |
Of course there is. Spend any time observing how arrogant TJ students and parents are towards others and you know that's not the case. |
Tan students and parents are not arrogant. That would be Langley students and parents. |
