| Most educated people know not to apply to 5, much less 8 Ivies. Pick 2 or 3 max plus safeties. |
His extracurricular activities and SAT score were squarely in the 'average' category for Ivies, and he seemingly had no hooks outside of being a URM. |

Great accomplishments for this young man! But these schools are so different, did he only apply to them because they're all Ivies? What do they have in common that would make him want to attend all of them on their own merits?
Still think it's amazing he managed this feat though. The article isn't loading for me, but did he apply to any other schools? Which school is he deciding to attend? |
So you say...the person who was NOT admitted to 8 Ivies. I'm sure that this kid will spend no time entertaining less accomplished critics like yourself. |
He hasn't decided yet, but he's leaning towards Yale. Great choice! |

He got into 8 Ivies. This is a feat in itself. Please be happy for him.

Thought the admissions expert was going to say "because he's black" but she pointed to his "immigrant" status instead. Guess that's a double leg up.
But Enin has "a lot of things in his favor," says college admissions expert Katherine Cohen, CEO and founder of IvyWise, a New York-based consulting firm. |
Exactly. I'm American-born Chinese, and my 1st generation friends and I did not hang around other immigrants of our generation and do not have any trace of foreign accents. However, we do sound Californian. |
| We are heading toward the end of Ivy dominance. The world is changing. Still, it's a great statistic to get into 8 of 8. |

I don't brag to those I know, but will on an anonymous forum... DD got into all 7 of the Ivy League schools she applied to last year (she was not interested in Cornell, so didn't apply).

I just can't imagine a student who would think they were a good fit for, and want to attend, all 8. And let's face it, there are better non-Ivys than Cornell, for instance. It seems to have just been a ploy to get bragging rights. |
Lol! I'm sure he's glad that he didn't ask your opinion. Btw, it looks as if he's on a path to be much better educated than you. |
Top 2% of class/great SAT scores/violist/athlete...all of that "helps" too. I guess we should call that a quadruple leg up. The bigots on this board really need to give it a rest. News flash: Yes, there really are some black kids that are qualified for Ivies based on numbers alone. Deal with it. |
No, I am jealous because my kid isn't black. Therefore, she applied to not a single Ivy, despite having higher SATs than this kid, plus other stuff that wouldn't matter, because she's white. Why bother applying? |
+1. I don't really think that kid is thinking about mindless comments, and the opinions of strangers. |
