Some proof that GBRS is nonsense, at least in some cases

I would not be surprised if GBRS is better with parents that volunteer more, only because they tend to be more involved in the children's life.

For one point of reference, my DD got a 16 GBRS this year and I haven't been in her classroom once to volunteer. That may be because during the hours of 9-4 I'm working at a success and fulfilling career. One that my DD thinks is "super cool' and maybe wants to do also. You're kidding yourself if you think most SAHMs, in this area, who routinely volunteer in the classroom are more "involved" in their child's life to the point that they would fairly recieve a higher GBRS. They volunteer to buddy up to the teacher to try and score a higher GBRS.

Just saying you have to work would have been sufficient.

Actually I'm a rocket scientist and I don't "have" to work. I work because I love what I do, I'm really good at what I do, and I think it's important to contribute to society if you can. I contribute through my career as well as raising happy, successful kids. I barely set foot in my kids' classrooms but I'm way more involved in my kids' lives where it really counts than most of the. SAHMs I've met in my neighborhood.

We have 4 room moms this year as compared to none last year. Hmmmm??? Can you guess why? I can guarantee you it's not because they are "really involved in their kids' lives".

I am a second grade teacher at a center school. I could care less if you are a PTA mom or if you kiss my ass. My GBRS are based on what I have seen your child do in school. It is pathetic that some parents think that teachers and their GBRS can be bought.

I have a question for you. Why, in recent years, have so many second grade students been admitted to AAP for third grade? Why is FCPS expanding AAP to such an extent that the Gen Ed classes are dwindling? As a teacher, I'm wondering if you have any inside information that the rest of us don't. TIA

As you know, the number of second grade students that were found Center eligible for third grade dropped (in last year's screening cycle).
