What security measures do you have in your home?

No alarm system needed.

A determined person will not be dissuaded by a dog.

New poster. I think you're missing the point. Sure, a person who's bound and determined steal my priceless collection of late 1980s cassettes (including the full eight-minute version of Cameo's "Word Up!"), or who perhaps cannot resist the alluring sexual charms of my dimpled white ass, will figure out a way to get past my 80lb dog that barks crazily at every tiny noise as if it's an invasion of 300 squirrels. But I'm betting that most evil-doers are not so determined to get into my house. When the dog goes nuts, they'll just move on to some other house a block away.

As my ol' grand-daddy used to say, "You don't have to be faster than the bear ... just faster than a couple of the other campers."

Do you live in/around DC or in Canada?

Just south of the border.

Smoke/CO detectors, and deadbolts on the door. Surprised we haven't died yet. Oh, and we have a dog but he's old and deaf so probably no form of defense. He doesn't even greet me at the door anymore

Automatic locks, deadbolts, knob locks on all doors. Gun in each room in biometric safe. Large dog.

Lots of guns. When the Boston bomber was out on the loose I was hoping he'd break into a house like ours with my DH the sharpshooter.

We don't have an alarm, but we live in a gated neighborhood with a doorman and CCTVs on the floors (not that I think they'd do any good!).

I will not post my security measures. Are you a robber?

Nothing beats a German Shepherd. We have two. No one would dare come in this house uninvited. Even with a gun, they would be lucky to get one of them. We live in a very safe neighborhood, but my DH travels frequently. I do not worry about a home invasion at all with the dogs in the house. They are great with kids, wicked smart, and fiercely protective.

We fart 24/7 and leave stinky underwear all over our mansion.

A handgun locked in a safe W/ a simplex lock, but not much use to DS (dear spouse) as they are not familiar with nor trained on the defensive use of firearms in the home.

Most law enforcement personnel are required to keep duty sidearms at home; hopefully they all follow safe storage best practices.
