The djia was at 14000 in 2007. From 2007 to 2014, it has increased by - total of about 15%. I have lived through 1987, 2000' and 2008. Factor in the bad years, and you hope for 4-5 %. For me, in July 2007 to the present, my 401k increased from 400k to 640k, but 140k was my contributions. The flip side is march 2009 the balance was 180k. If I had gone to cash in 2007' and reinvested in 2009, I could almost retire. |

Sure, if you had been invested since the inception of the S&P. As the brokers always say, history is not an indication of future performance. You can estimate whatever you want for projections but don't be surprised if reality gets in the way. |
NP here but I do it without a match because I am over 50 and get another $5500 catch up contribution. |
