Spinoff: Do you wear bikinis at the beach/pool/etc.

PP here. I don't wear string bikinis. I'm not in that good shape in my late 30s. The bikinis I wear are not more skimpy than a one piece around my hips and boobs, they just show my tummy. My favorite is a bandeau top with boyshorts.

Yes, I wear bikinis (although not string) and do around in-laws, etc. Have a couple of more skimpy ones that I save just for when DH and I are on vacation alone (push up type top for my G boobs)

When I was pregnant I wore a tankini but the only time I ever wear a one piece is when I'm swimming to work out. One pieces look god awful on me.

at 97lbs, unless you are medically a dwarf, i highly doubt you could possibly pass for fat in any suit. Probably more like a death camp survivor.

Probably not "fat" but I do look heavier in one-pieces.

I say this not with internet snark but genuine concern: have you been treated for an eating disorder or body dysmorphic disorder? Unless you are well under five feet, you are genuinely unable to look heavy in a one piece. My gran was five feet tall and didn't weigh over 98 save when she was expecting, and she was just the bittiest little bird of a woman (strong as hell though).

That's actually probably a good thing.

I'm French. On French beaches a significant number of woman of all ages are topless. My aunt and cousin were sunbathing topless at their pile in the country when we arrived for a little family get-together. I feel appropriately conservative in my lovely ombre string bikini.

And I wear it here too. Who cares about puritans?

I do not. And rarely ever did. But I do not care when other women wear skimpy bikinis. If up can pull it off, good for you.

Nope. Last time I wore a bikini was my honeymoon. But I don't care if other women wear them--pool beach reunion etc. Go for it, ladies!

Don't the fakes look silly?

Yes. 5'8 37 Size 6 Very fit but some light stretch marks and hint of cellulite. I have a long torso so it's hard to find one pieces that fit well. And bikinis have the added bonus of giving the girls a bit of a lift.

I wish it were standard for women to wear bathing suits with a skirt and men to where shorts. I don't need to see anywhere close to someone's crotch area.

I'm also tired of this notion that the closer to naked you are willing to go in public, the more "confident" you are. I think we put far too much emphasis on body parts when we talk about confidence.

32, 5'7" 130 lbs. yes to bikini. We currently live in A MA beach town just south of Boston. The women are frumpy puritans a
)even the ones with good bodies). I feel like scandalous and like people are judging that I am the only one not wear a lands end skirted tankini. I honestly find it ridiculous. Been here 4 yrs and still not used to it

Honestly, I don't think that anyone really cares what YOU are wearing. They wear what feels comfortable to them. String bikinis or itty bitty suits aren't practical for the every day mom (even the ones that can pull them off) with clingy kids and swim bags, toys, whatnot to haul around - way too easy for a wardrobe malfunction to happen. At some point you simply wear whatever feels secure and comfortable to you...
