Not the OP, but I'm a goddamn adult. I'm also a goddamn teacher, which means that I have 2 - 4 hour increments of time each day when I can not go to the bathroom. That is longer than an ultra tampon lasts me during the early days of my period, hence the need for backup. In addition, since I prefer not to get up every 2 hours at night, I use backup then as well.

I would imagine that there are plenty of other people with careers that don't allow unlimited bathroom access.

Ever have a period that is so heavy you need huge pads along with a tampon that needs changing every hour?
So, yeah, I am a grown woman who needs pads.

+ 1000 I need two tampons and a maxi pad, and even then I live in fear of accidents. Gahh!

Are you aware that you smell like old blood?

Barf!

You are ridiculous. And mean.

+1 Another teacher here, and I feel your pain, PP.
Those of you who are so judgmental, wait until you are in perimenopause and having crazy heavy periods...you will need every bit of protection you can get!

What is with all the negative posters here?

I'm the PP that said I use pads first two days of cycle to alleviate cramps. Pads do stink like period blood and are generally gross. Some of us unfortunate souls have to use them but let's not deny the facts.

+1 this is me too.

This. Tampons don't cut it for super heavy flows. Be grateful you don't have much and a tampon is actually effective.

No, I don't. I change them regularly. You sound self hating. You think women should feel disgusted and ashamed because they menstruate. How sad.

Dear Lord, just get an endometrial ablation and be done with them all. FREEDOM!

My flow is way too slow for tampons.

Dear Smug Tampon User,

When you get there you may find tampons don't cut it for perimenopausal periods.

Hey dumbass if you weren't such a closed-minded bitch you'd broaden your knowledge base and know that some people bleed more than a tampon can absorb, and HAVE to also wear a pad. For two nights of my period I have to change my tampon at 10pm, midnight, 3 or 4 am, and then at 6am.

OP, to answer your question, we have no way of knowing. Every body is different. A friend of mine for example, swears by pantyliners with wings, but I found that wings draw blood to the sides rather than catch it to avoid staining. It sounds like you're buying for somebody else? I'd just buy both and try them each. Whichever doesn't work, just ... donate somewhere (even if to your office's restroom).
