This is what I remember - he was making hints about getting together (questioning whether she would consider marrying again, etc) and she very gracefully shut it down without embarrassing him.

Yes Mrs C saved Dr C from himself last season

But now she is without Matthew and needs someone in her life. I am betting/hoping that the two get together. Plus it would probably annoy Mary and Violet and both could do what they do best: the English version of a hissy fit!

Ok I am now jealous of Mr.s Crawley. I really am. And I don't get jealous! But seriously, that Dr. is HOT, and he's so kind and sweet. And I love that he loves her, not some young thing. He's in love with her brains and her perseverance and her values.

I hope, I hope, that the reason he is getting so much airtime is due to a budding romance with her, not because he's about to save Edith from some botched abortion...

Agree with the positive sentiments about Mrs. Crawley and the doctor. I'm enjoying that story and Mrs. Crawley's character, generally, very much this season.

I'm also becoming a fan of Edith. I'd love to see her become a career woman in London, someone of note, on her own. A famous journalist, perhaps. Once we get to WWII, the possibilities for her story would be enormous and exciting.

Disagree with the negativity toward Rose. I like her. I like the way she's just crazy about men and doesn't give a fig whether they're appropriate or not (i.e. working class, black). Actually, it's that she sees them as individuals and doesn't seem to notice that they're not appropriate, which is actually more interesting than if she were consciously rebelling against social expectations.

I've loved the clothes on Edith and Rose, but the styles do nothing for Mary. She's too thin and flat for them. She just looks gaunt and shapeless.

You will recall that it was Dr. Clarkson who wanted Sybil to have her baby at hospital, but that dum dum Lord Grantham wouldn't hear of it. Ergo, Sybil died. I like all the little sub-romances going on: Carson and Mrs. Hughes, Daisy and Alfred, Mrs. C. and Dr. C., Rose and whomever, Branson and if it were only me!

I have to ask...does anybody else think the actor who plays Bates is awful? He has the same look on his face, and the same tilt of the head for every scene. Growing anger, mild bemusement, simmering suspicion...all the same facial expression! Bugs me no end.

Actor playing Bates is good. I think director is trying too make him too much of an enigma

I agree with you re Mary's clothes, but I think this is intentional to show her cocooning herself. I suspect she is due for a blossoming event, and the clothes will of course blossom with her to emphasize that fact.

LOL I'm not crazy about Rose, but I see your point about the potential for interesting stories. Although I disagree with your point about individuality: I don't think Rose sees the men as individuals at all…any man giving her attention is all it takes to peak her interest. Therefore just as there are no distinctions re cultural appropriateness of the individual status or not, there really is no distinction based on the individual's personality either. Rose is just man-crazed and any drooling man will do. (oh to be that age again! So exciting and fun.)

Yeah, I think you have a point about Rose. I do really like her, though. Usually young characters really irritate me, but she's so eager and ingenuous and cheerful. I find her so appealing. Everyone around her is so jaded, especially with Sybil gone.

Mary is in "half-mourning" Victorian dress. This is why her clothes aren't as cool as Edith's.
