can anyone recommend their OB in DC?

Thank you for this second. I am not the OP, but I had been a patient of Dr. Udwin's at GU for many years, and have been wondering who to see with my annual exam due up soon. Mainly looking for only GYN "stuf" at this point as my ds is enough!

I THIRD Dr. Colie at georgetown. I know OP wants to deliver at sibley, so Colie might be out of the question. but, I absolutely adore her. I've been with her for nearly eight years. she was terrific when she found pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. she was wonderful throughout my pregnancy. I can't say enough about her.

the only drawback is that the georgetown practice is really busy, and sometimes the wait can be long if you don't have an appt first thing in the morning. also, because the docs rotate in L&D, your OB might not be the OB who delivers you. Colie wasn't on duty when I went into labor. the OB who delivered DS (Dr. Buek) was totally awesome, though I know he recently left the practice.

good luck!

Too bad about Reiter and Hill...I have had only good experiences with them... He actually delivered both of my children, the first via emergency c. he actually kept his office open late to see me when my Placenta previa was diagnosed to talk with me about it..Johnson, Sedgi, Mungmann, Loveland...love them all. However, I completely appreciate the personal nature of the decision and best of luck to you!

I loved Dr. Udwin. Does anyone know which practice he is with now?

I go to Reiter, Hill & Johnson, have for 12 years, and have had only one bad experience with a front desk person in the Falls Church office. I had called to ask for another u/s because I felt something wasn't right with my pregnancy and was told that under no circumstances would my insurance (Aetna) approve another u/s, and so rude, I wanted to strangle her. My intuitions were right and I went on to miscarry. Dr. Loveland did the D&C and I just loved her. I pretty much saw Dr. Abraham for my appts. and when she called me after the procedure, I gave her an earful. When I went back to the Falls Church office, that person was gone. I felt pretty good about that. When I was having my son, there was a problem and I had to get to Sibley quickly-before my scheduled induction-Dr. Johnson was on duty. She was the most competent, warm, composed woman-I had to have a c-section and everything went perfectly. Dr. Reiter was on duty the next day and I found him to be funny and personable, but I've heard otherwise from other people. Maybe he was having a good day It's a huge practice, but I've always felt that the Drs. were extremely competent. I was 42 when I had our son, and didn't get the feeling that they were AMA negative, which can be the case with some OBs. I've been going there for so long, I can't make the move, but I can see your point. Dr. Johnson, though, is just a wonderful ob/gyn.

Now-regarding Sibley. I had an issue with house pediatrician. Lives 2 neighborhoods down from us and would love to ring his doorbell and slap that mans face. My neurologist also goes to Reiter & Hill, and had the same experience with the house pediatrician, she went as far as to ask them to fire him.

Afte my m/c at 12 weeks, they were careful to not have me see a PA, I always saw a MD.

This is the OP, and I just want to chime in, for what it's worth, that it wasn't really the clinicians at Reiter and Hill that were the problem, it was mostly the support staff ( I had a similar experience with an US that the PP had) and what sent me over the edge was that I had a miscarriage and they had a tech call me at work to tell me. I just think the office is too big and I wasn't getting the management of my care that I wanted.

That being said, Dr. Muangman handled my care with my daughter and delivered her and I love her. If she opened her own practice I would be there in a second.

Second for Sanders & Schaffel. Delivered with them twice. They deliver all their patients so you know what you're getting.

Their support staff are friendly, courteous, responsive. That said, the doctor calls with almost any information (including, "Just got your results and back and everything is OK.")

I also saw Dr. Muangman once for an emergency visit while I was pregnant and yes, wonderul Dr. Were you having US in the office? Aetna requires that the US are done outside of the practice...so when I did miscarry, several times before I had my son, it was always a Dr. who called me. Throughout the years, I mostly saw Dr. Abraham, as I wrote earlier, but by the time I was nearing the end of my pregnancy, I felt comfortable with most of the doctors in the practice. After my US indicated something was wrong at 38 weeks, the doctor wouldn't let me leave until a doctor at Reiter Hill called, and I was thinking, GREAT, I'lm going to be here forever...however, Dr. Johsnon called from Sibley, calmed me down, I was hysterical, and told me to get to Sibley with my husband to deliver that night. I just can't say enough about her, the surgery went perfect, she's an incredible doctor. The house pediatrician was a complete JERK, but it was Dr. Johnson who calmed my nerves and told me everything was ok with my baby, which turned out to be true, he's perfect-that ass had me crying the entire time I was at Sibley, for 4 days!

If you have a problem with someone at Reiter, Hill and Johnson, I would definitely tell someone. Maybe the problem will be fixed.

Me again. I do not think he is with another practice as I saw on a different thread that he may have left the medical field. I had intended to ask GU when calling to make my appt. there.

Anonymous wrote:Please do NOT see Dr. Gschwend under any circumstances. His c-section rate is much higher than the national average (which is already too high). He said that 35% of his LOW RISK patients have c-sections and that his high risk patients have a MUCH greater risk of a c-section. It's irresponsible that he is still a doctor.

When I asked him how I could lower my risk, he said that my only option was to birth in a log cabin, and that he didn't have any time to explain it any further and left the room with my husband and myself in shock. Needless to say, I went to another doctor (in that same practice) who confidentially told me to LEAVE the practice since Dr. Gschwend and others in that practice will give a c-section improperly. I recommend Birth Care in Alexandria, VA (it's on the blue line and I think the yellow line, too).

Although he's not exactly warm and fuzzy, I have consistently received excellent care from him. Although I've never been bothered by it, I know some have complained that the Bethesda office is too crowded. Also, the practice recently moved into larger offices in Bethesda and the Sibley office is much much quieter.

I have seen Dr. Gschwend for many years and he delivered both my kids. I think he is great! He is definitely not warm and fuzzy- but I had a very high stress second birth with lots of complications and he was completely calm and collected and everyone turned out healthy. However, the office at Sibley is now closed due to the remodeling.

Just a note on Dr. Bridges. While he used to deliver 95% of his babies, he now delivers only a very small percentage. When I asked him he told me I had a 1/7 chance that he would deliver my baby (which was a shock to me as I 8 months pregnant and was not aware of this--and I asked the question; he did not offer up the info). Needless to say I saw 3 doctors during my delivery and none of them were Bridges....

Dr. Blank stopped doing OB several years ago. He is my regular gynecologist, but when I got pregnant I switched to Dr. Newman for prenatal care.

RE: Dr. Gschwend. He was on duty when I went into labor and he delivered my son at Sibley. He is definitely cold and not personable. But I take issue with the idea that he pushes for c-sections. My son was not descending the way he should and Dr. Gschwend encouraged the nurses to help me into different positions to get him moving. When I started pushing, the baby basically got "stuck" behind my pubic bone. I was very scared that I would be taken in for a c-section (after 20 hours of labor!) and he reassured me that the baby was deliverable. He had to use forceps -- so it was not an ideal birth, but I was very glad to avoid the c-section.

I second the recommendation of Dr. Robert Footer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE him. Truly the BEST DOCTOR EVER. Based on your post, I beleive he is excatly what you are looking for. He is a solo practitioner so you won't have to deal with different doctors. He delivers at Sibley and he is in DC. His staff (front desk person and nurse) as well as himself are incredibly nice. Dr. Footer is an extremely nice caring person. If there is bad news, he will personally tell you that news and in the nicest possible way. When you call during office hours and tell the front desk person you want to talk to him, she will immediatly transfer the call and he will take the call and talk to you over the phone. Let me give you an example of how wonderful he is. I had a specialized ultrasound done during my pregnancy that revealed an anomaly. I was scared to death and was in tears. I called Dr. Footer's office and talked to the nurse and told her how extremely worried I was, she told me that Dr. Footer was out of town , actually in a plane at the time we were speaking, but that she would page him and tell him to call me back. About 15 minutes later, Dr. Footer called me from the airport, his plane had just landed. He spent a very very long time listening to me in tears and reassuring me in the nicest most caring loving way. It was unbeleivable how nice he was. Truthfully, no one could have done a better job at reassuring me, my own mother would not have done a better job. Incredible. Frankly, I do not know any other doctor who would ever do that for a patient. He is absolutely wonderful. If you choose him, you will certainly not regret it.
