DS is 13 months and has never had juice, so I'm not a juice person. However, this is a little over the top. When I do introduce juice to him, I will be juicing the fruit and veggies myself, like OP. I think you can agree that this is far healthier and has less sugar than store bought juice. That said, OP, just put a few ounces of water in the sippy cup. It isn't going to replace BM or purees, its just an introduction.

Thank you. I will keep juice away until he is older. Than, I will give him homemade juice a couple times a week. I will put water in his sippy cup. I think my ped. said something about him getting water on the brain if he consumes too much.

Sorry, but are you currently juicing fermented grain?!? What on earth is THAT supposed to mean?

My pediatrician said babies can very easily consume too much water and have water on the brain. That is fatal. It is possible for every human. How the hell do you not know this?

No, I'm talking about water intoxication. They say as little as 3oz can be too much for the child.
Children under 1 can't fully process and flush out water as fast we can.

Please tell us you are joking. Is this an actual MD pediatrician?

Water intoxication and 'water on the brain' are two totally different things.

No more than2oz of water a day for kids less than 1.

OP I do homemade juice since the kids were 2. I blend 1 part of frozen fruit with 2 parts of water. Perfect for all day drinking. They don't even like the boxed nasty stuff.

Note that the ideal is fruit in natura since the fiber helps slow down the absorption of the sugar but nothing wrong with a few sips of healthy stuff per day.

You should check with a nutritionist. Babies have different nutritional needs than adults.

This. OP, I think you're a troll but if you are not, get a new ped ASAP.

I wouldn't give a kid juice either but sugar doesn't cause diabetes. Educate yourself before you jump off cliffs like this.

Clearly OP is a nutjob. She probably takes her kid to a chiropractor or direct entry midwife instead of a ped.

I started giving my son water around 6.5 months (time he started solids) and several weeks in he loooooves water. I just do it for practice rather than thirst as he's nursing. He's 10 months -almost. Occasionally I'll give him a sip of my juice when he crawls up and stares. He can barely drink from a glass, but each time has made a grossed out face. Water is perfect for babies.

My DD is 19 mos and is not keen on eating fresh fruit. She will drink a smoothie with fruit blended in it or she will eat dried fruit such as raisins, cranberries and blueberries.

I have started giving her the naked juice brand. It's quite thick and says on the bottle what fruit/veg is in it, and how much. I would say she has about 8oz of this a day.
I think its better to have fruit blended/juiced that not get the fruit at all. I realize theres natural sugars in the fruit but theres no sugar added.

People still give juice children? Why?

Because there are vitamins and other good things in it. Im talking about real juice, not capri sun type crap.

The actual fruit is much better than just juice.

I agree but if the child won't eat fruit ( toddler) than actual juice is better than nothing.
