Bring home about $3000 after insurance, 401K, etc.
Rent: $1325 Utilities (internet, cell, electric): $80 Afterschool Care: $300 Debts (1 credit card, various medical bills, student loans): $300 Car expenses (gas and parking, car is paid off): $250 Groceries: $250 Misc: $100 That leaves about $400, which I split between savings and extra debt payments. I do live with my fiance, he pays 50% of rent, utilities and groceries. I pay for his health insurance, he pays for renter's insurance, car insurance and repairs. He brings home about the same as I do, but has a higher debt load due to student loans. |
Sounds like they do what my wife and I do and allocate a certain amount of their income for joint expenses and the rest for personal expenses so PP left out the part of their respective incomes that goes towards separate expenses. |

Mortgage: $2000
Childcare: $4500 Food, gas, electric, heat, water, internet, tv, cell phone, going out, insurance, everything else: ~$4000 ----- Tot: ~$11,000 Income: ~$13,000 / mo Assets: $1,675,000 Debt: $360,000 The day I am free of the childcare costs will be like winning the lottery. |

We are in our early 30s/late 20s and make over $450K a year from our jobs. Rent is $1900/mo. We spend about $1900/mo. on everything else, including food, utilities, clothing, etc. Save $230K a year from our combined pay after taxes. No kids yet, but still a very high cost of living area.
That being said, we don't feel like we deprive ourselves. Drive an entry level luxury car (e.g., Lexus, Infiniti). Eat out at Michelin restaurants several times a year. I wear high fashion clothing I get from Yoox (I select my pieces carefully so don't have a shit-ton), etc. All about priorities. |
| seriously you spend a total of $45k to live onwhen you make $450k??? And less than $2k on everything besides rent. Do you not have cable, internet, etc? or do you eat ramen when not at michenlin restaurants? I'm just curious... not slamming trying to find out if we are doing something wrong since our food budget alone is 50% of your total everything else! |

After tax bring in $13k per month
Mortgage: 3500 Utility, phone, etc: 1000 Food: 1000 Car and gas: 400 Kids sports: 500 Clothes/shoes: 300 Misc including travel:3000 Savings incl 529: 3500 |
No cable, have Netflix/internet. We have smartphones on a Ting plan. My work covers my data, but since our total bill is under $40 it doesn't make a huge difference. We try to cook ourselves (order a CSA box each week). I live within a half mile of the office, SO takes public transportation to get to work. Thus, we don't drive a lot and only have 1 car. One day a few years ago, I took a long hard look at my financial picture and decided to just start cutting things that either a) took a huge chunk out of my budget or b) wasn't important to me. At the time, I was living alone and paying $35K a year in rent. Decided to get a roommate and cut rent to a third of that. That was the start and just kept tightening things up. Tracking spending was a huge help. |

Mortgage: $3600
After school care: $400 Gas/Electric: $150-200 Cell: $100 Car: $200 Kid's Activities: $200 Groceries: $800 Everything Else: $1400-1800 Cable/Internet: $180 Car Insurance: $100 Lawn Maintainance: $80 College Savings: $500 Country Club: $400 (includes some dining) IRS - $900 Take home is $12K so the rest ($2.5Kish) goes into savings (less in summer (camps)). |
| ^^^ that should be IRA, not IRS! |
|
After taxes, 401k, health insurance, our take-home is about $7500.
Expenses are $6200. |
|
Takehome is $18k after 401k deductions Mortgage: $4k Nanny: $3k Food : $1500 Utilities + phone + internet : $500 toys , clothes, pharmacy, car repairs, hardware store, etc (ie credit card) : $3k medical expenses: $500 housekeeper: $500 Not sure where other stuff is going but we probably save $3-$4k / month. As for the 50% poster, we all have our own ways with money. If you want to be a saver, go for hit. The bulk of our income is lifetime employment (tenured professor) and we have more money than time, so I spend to make sure life is easy enough that I can do the things I want and spend time with my kids. Lecture me when I have credit card debt or am filing for bankruptcy because I bought too many pairs of Jimmy Choos |

Rent - $1775 Daycare - $1120 Food, groceries + eat out - $1000-1200 (we could definitely cut back) Phone - $100 family plan Internet - $50 Car loan - $260 Electricity - $40-150 depending on weather Gas - $70 Car insurance - $90 Student loans - $315 We don't do monthly hair cuts, clothes, etc but those are low - 2k for clothes for the family, $200 or less on hair & beauty appts. |
We live the same way only buy what we need, spend on a nice dinner or vacation every now and then. Income isn't even half yours, so won't have as sweet a retirement or buy a house with cash later. Good job, keep it up. |
