Cars and insurance: $900
Child support for 1 DSS: $750
Preschool DD's preschool tuition: $280
Internet/Cable + 4 phone lines: $400

I'd say our biggest expenses are either food, at about $1000 to $1200 a month, or taxes (real estate, property, etc.).

No debt of any kind, no longer have childcare.

We spend about $7000 a month, bank about $9000.

Bring home about 12K. Spend about 16 K. Get bonuses and pay off the rest on loans. Sucks but with three kids and two expensive luxury SUVs...it sucks.

take home 15k

expenses:
mortage/tax/insurance : 3600
utilities: 300
cable/internet/phone: 250
gas/metro/ezpass: 400 (husband has LONG commute)
food/household supplies: 1400
cleaning service: 300
insurance: 150
travel: 1250 (on average)
home repairs: 1400 (fixing flip problems)
misc (personal/clothing/car repairs/medical, etc): 1000

Monthly take home is roughly $9K

Mortgage: $2400
Childcare: $1300
Student loan: $320
Utilities: $400
Food/household supplies: $450
Gas: $250
Insurance (car, life, umbrella policy): $200
Dining out: $200
Wine: $200
Metro: $100
Misc (gifts, clothes, car repair, home repair, family activities): $1,000
Hair cuts: $70
Dry cleaning: $40

Realisitcally there should be about $2000 left over each month, but it usually ends up closer to $1200. The other $800 just sort of disappears on an additional dinner out, new toys for the kid, some activity for the kid, professional photos of the kid, travel to see family, etc. I should probably just up my misc category to account for that, but it does vary month to month.

you all spend too much. You dont need that $300 cable or $5000 mortgage. Your total expenses should be 50% of what you bring in or you are living way beyond your means. Hood rich sounds like.

how much is too much? And how did you come up with that 50% threshold?

I wonder about some of these expenses too, like the person paying $500 per month for utilities and that doesn't include their cable and internet. Seriously, how could your electric/gas/water/trash bill be that high?

Take home $7200.

Mortgage (PITI) is $2500
Childcare (nanny) is around $2000
Groceries average $600-700
Utilities (including cable and cell phones) $415
Student loans (combined) $600
Gas averages around $100

We are putting around $300/month into savings (not retirement or college funds, just general savings). I feel like I have no idea where some of it goes.

That was me, the trash is free.
It's water, electric, gas and its 470 a month to be exact. I have 4000 sq feet and a huge pool and year round outdoor hot tub.

Our utilities are similar except we have an old ass 1700 sq. ft. drafty house. We are slowly trying to renovate and fix things, but that will likly only go so far.

This doesn't add up. Your take home is 2000+1500+1000 = 4500

4500

- mortgage 2500
= 2000
- daycare, credit card and utilities (2300 per your numbers)

negative 300 left
then you say an additional expense of 500 (car), 800 (cc), and 40 (car ins) and ANOTHER 2000 savings??

Does not add up, pp. I've been doing a budget for 15 years. Something is wrong.
