TJ wine is yuck! I still shop there for the cheeze, cereals, chocolate-covered edamame, popcorn, avocado hummus..... some stuff is good. |
Is this the same poster that started a thread in off-topic about a month ago? Same complaint, their food went bad too quickly.
I think it was a general consensus that everyone has had an issue of food spoilage from different grocery store chains at some point and is not solely a TJs problem. |
I am a huge foodie and I rarely have a problem with their produce. I just make sure it looks and smells good before I buy.....anywhere. All food stores have issues with produce at one point or another...including Whole Foods! Love love Trader Joe's and rarely buy anything processed there! |
OP here, no that wasn't me. And while I realize that all chains may have an occasional spoiled product, I do think this TJ's seems to have more quality issues than most. Thanks all for letting me vent and sharing your comments! |
I feel the same way OP- I stopped buying their fresh fruits/veg.
Just stick with the frozen, refrigerated and processed stuff. |
I also have problems with produce - mostly the fruit. I have also stopped buying the TJ-Brand Cheeses - the ones that they cut and package themselves. I have had too many experiences with mold in their cheeses less than a week after I buy it.
However, I do love TJs for so many other things, frozen salmon, nuts, cereals, grains especially. |
If you think TJs is only processed food, you aren't shopping properly.
I buy lots of items to cook with that are far cheaper for me, a city dweller with very few non-whole foods options. Oils, rice, frozen spinach, quality dairy, greek yogurt, nuts, etc. of course the junk food is awesome, but it is a great resource for filling a pantry! |
yogurt is processed food. by definition. unless you're drinking the milk raw, it's processed too. Frozen spinach has been processed. I guess the nuts have just been put in a container so probably not, unless they've been roasted, in which case -- processed. Also, TJs tends to add MSG to a lot of its house label foods. Anything labeled "natural flavorings" most likely contains MSG> |
I don't think anyone who shops at Trader Joe's thinks what they're buying makes them foodies (unless you think I'm fancy for buying the instant coffee with the sugar and creamer already in it. I also think you don't know what a foodie is. To the other quoted PP: yes, much of TJ's food is junk food, but you really think 7-11 is better? Wow. Enjoy those strange looking hot dog concoctions. |
That's almost universal for processed, packaged food. Look for it by other names, too, like autolyzed yeast extract. |
yes, you're right - I wasn't aware that, as people, we should be fruitarians. plain yogurt, nuts, frozen spinach, etc are all - to most normal people - healthy foods that are part of a nutritious pantry. I don't consider modern conveniences - like the metro, wireless internet, or individual containers of cottage cheese to be "processed" like cheesie puffs. But hey, if you have time to live a completely raw lifestyle, good for you - I have a job. |
Uhm . . . instant coffee with sugar and creamer in it is neither fancy nor foodie; maybe foul? |
If you only see the super-processed junk, you're missing out. Trader Joe's is pretty good for plain basics--nuts, dairy, frozen vegetables, baking staples, peanut butter, hummus, frozen fish, canned beans, etc. |
Hey, don't knock it till you try it. Also sarcasm. |
I have never had problems with TJ's produce. I have with my local Giant, however, and it has not stopped me from continuing to shop there.
