Love you, OP. |
| If your dd puts on her application that she wants to major in muggle studies, she may get an extra push. My neighbor's hair dresser's daughter did that and she got in when she had no other advantages (no legacy, pre-owls were average). |
| If Barty Crouch were still in charge of the Ministry, a few galleons in the right places would probably be effective, but all that changed when Kingsley Shacklebolt took over. I think your best bet is some kind of hook. Can she do a few simple charms? Also, in the intetview, you might hint that she has a petronus. |
Me, too. And I live in DC! Back to the original topic: I agree with others who have said the Sorting Hat will take strong preferences into acount. |
| Who is the new head at Hogwarts anyway? Dumbledore did some good things for the school but it was really time for him to go. |
Percy Weasley was vying for the position, but I think he lost out to McGonagal. |
OP, does your DC have undiagnosed ADD/ADHD? If you don't know, take her to be examined right away. Pretty sure she can get accommodations that will get in her to Gryffindor, no problem. |
She is really interested in Hogwarts' STEM program (Scientifically Termed & Engineered Magic) so I don't think she would be able to get in and switch concentrations later but otherwise that would be something to consider. As some PP's mentioned, the faculty turnover really bothers me. While Dumbledore and Snape's replacements are completely understandable (since they died), I am concerned with what seems like excessive turnover over the last seven years (Moody, Lockhart, Umbridge, Quirrell, Lupin, Barty Crouch Jr., and Carrow) just to name a few. It seems to me like too many changes in such a short period of time and that there was a serious lack of judgment IMHO in bringing most of these folks in the first place. Staff turnover has always been a hot button for me and I really have my antenna's up because of it. |
| I don't know why anybody considers Hogwarts. It is your obligation to society to send your young wizard to muggle school. They will have a very unrealistic view of the world raised in such a elite atmosphere. Don't you want them to learn how the bulk of humanity lives? I am sure you can teach them everything they need to know about magic through intensive home tutoring after school. I think the only reason you send your children to Hogwarts is that you are afraid they will marry a muggle! |
|
OMG, this is in the running for Best Thread Ever. Thanks for the laughs! They are well-needed during the application process!
|
Petunia Dursley, is that you? You and your family are "the worst kind of muggles," as Minerva McGonagall so aptly said. |
|
We're muggles and, despite DD's gift for magic, I worry about whether she'll fit in with all the wizards. Are normal people happy at Hogwarts?
Also, I've heard differing things about the elvish minority and how they are treated. Would someone be willing to speak to that? |
| Hogwarts mom, is that you boosting your school again? |
| My DS is exceptionally gifted at wizardry and I worry that he will be bored at Hogwarts. Should we be looking at Durmstrang Institute instead? |
| I've heard there is financial aid at Hogwarts. We don't rake in the galleons, so every knut would help. I'm a bit worried that the other students might look down on DS since we can't afford to buy him a Nimbus 2000 and we aren't Holyhead Harpies season ticket holders. Is DS in for a lifetime of hallway jinxing and dormitory dungbombing if we apply for aid? |
