3:45, your assumption that less homework = dumbing down is incorrect. Just take a look at the rote worksheets that are sent home with kids these days, projects that require heavy parent involvement to complete, etc. This is not how future scientists are made. Empirical evidence also shows that homework in the younger years -- with the exception of reading -- yields absolutely no benefit.

As a young mother to my first DC, I used to question the (relatively) little homework in the early Primary School years. I now realize what a gift that was for my DCs.

While there is much debate around whether homework raises standardized test scores in elementary schoolchildren, your statement above is patently wrong.
