You are a dumb ass. The federal government and DC city government are not the same.

I'm always amazed at the people who are so certain they are right and yet have no idea what they are talking about.

An individual's unemployment benefits are based on the particular state in which an employee works so the process for all federal workers will not be the same. The best advice would be to talk to HR at your agency.

Very interesting question. Our leadership has ordered the return home of all TDY employees[u] rather than expose them to the possibility of personal responsibility for hotel rooms and other expenses next week should the government shut. Reimbursement would be subject to an Act of Congress. If the agreement on your apartment is between USG and the landlord, you'll be fine. Same with school I would think. If you're paying for these and getting reimbursed it may be a very sticky wicket.

But don't panic or anything.

Really?!? Wow. Not panicking here...

It isn't a matter of panicking. If the govt shuts down on Tuesday, agencies cannot legally pay for hotels, plane tickets, etc. I would be surprised to hear of agencies that haven't ordered those traveling to get back by Monday (not including those like PP who live overseas). I know a few agencies that have canceled meetings and events next week because they should be paying stipends and travel for people, but can't be certain of the funds.

Point is, by now even if they do pass a CR, Congress has cost the govt a lot of money, and caused major disruption to government functions. The biggest wasters of taxpayer dollars are those in Congress.

Not true. They can meet financial obligations until October 17th (based on projections), the issue before then is the labor to process the requests. In theory, we could all get paid on the 14th for last week's work as long as there are exempt people in each agency on hand to push the button to activate the automated systems. In theory.

Nobody "gets paid" until a budget is passed. But, yes, the President is an exempt employee.

It is a benefit the employer paid for, nothing to do with your saving. You should google if you do not know the fact. Stop being ignorant AND lazy.

Actually, he's mandatory and must receive pay--not just a promise of pay. It's different than those who are merely expected as essential under the statue for discretionary employees. Their pay checks are just promises until thus is resolved.

OP here, agency refused to advise on this, basically because they were unprepared. That, of course, is another problem. It's actually a big law enforcement agency, so one might expect better, but oh well.

Contact the state agency.
