+1000, and I'll add that her going by just her first name was reDONKulous. Does she think she's Madonna? Or does she actually think America is too stupid to get her multi-syllable last name right...if we can get Giovanni Ribisi, hers is not too hard... |
I don't know about Giuliana Rancic but I watched "watch what happens live" on bravo last night and was a bit taken aback by how thin kelli ripa (sp?) has gotten. I have always thought she was adorable but never watch her show so haven't seen her in a while. And doesn't the camera add 10 pounds as it is? She was very painfully thin and drawn.
I'm sure she's actually healthy and she has a naturally thin frame but she has gotten to the point of needing to add a few pounds. |
I saw an Intervention episode where an anorexic woman would even exercise in the shower. If you live like that long enough, it could cause damage to your heart. Think that is how Karen Carpenter died, heart problems caused by years of dealing with anorexia. |
Kelly Ripa has muscle tone though, she at least consumes enough calories that her body isnt eating her muscle, where as GR has nothing but bone and skin. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2409871/Kelly-Ripa-debuts-short-sleek-bob-new-season-morning-talk-show.html |
BTDT, former ED, 25 years ago.
According to my doctor and dentist, here's the list of permanent damage I've done to myself; - osteopenia at age 39 - irregular heartbeats/palpitations - extreme tooth sensitivity - too much stomach acid wearing away my enamel and gums - gum recession - hair trigger gag reflex - tooth decay oh, and during recovery, I had to retrain myself to eat. I had forgotten what normal eating even was - portion control, nutrition, caloric intake, how often to eat, how to pace myself, when to stop, everything. The longer you struggle with an ED, the more ingrained it is and the more difficult it is to fully recover. I've seen too many half hearted attempts (to get the family/docs to stop nagging) and replacing one addiction for another. Guiliana needs help. |
Slightly OT, but I started to wonder the other day - what do anorexics eat to survive? Do they fill up on low/no calorie food like lettuce or just eat a few bites of regular food and go hungry most of the day? If the latter, how do they fight the hunger pain? How do they have the energy to exercise? |
I was home sick on Friday and saw her show. She said she exercises two hours a day, 7 days a week. |
I love Kelly! I cannot stand GR. |
Anorexia is varied and wide range. There are people like Guiliana Rancic, who (according to her posted regimen) will eat around 750 calories a day. With extremely strict "rules." A lot of people masquerade their anorexia as "clean eating" or some other kind of dogmatic diet. After a while, your body basically cannibalizes itself - it takes energy from your muscles, shuts down non-essential functions (ceases menstruation, hair loss, etc). When anorexics die, it's not from being too skinny - it's because of some kind of organ failure. The kidneys have no more energy to keep them functioning. Or the liver. Or the heart. |
Are the people on this thread who keep putting her down (not everyone is) the same ones on the "happy with yourself" thread who keep complaining about the mistreatment of fat people? |
I posted the link to her old posting about her diet. I haven't seen the other thread you're talking about. |
She's been through cancer that turned out to be more serious than everyone thought at first.. so she had to have a mastectomy (maybe even a double one, I'm not sure) instead of a lumpectomy. Advanced breast cancer often comes back. |
I'm a recovering anorexic. When I struggled, I consumed about 900 calories a day and exercised heavily. I ate small portions of low calorie/ low fat foods. Eventually, you aren't hungry and get a high from the feeling of not eating. It's a tough cycle to break but it can be broken. |
15:16 here - thank you to the pp's who responded. I guess there are a lot of misconceptions out there about what qualifies as anorexic. I can even imagine outsiders praising these strict diets and exercise regimens. |
Yup, and this is the point that I usually stop watching. Most of these reality shows have only about two seasons worth of interesting storylines. After that, the other seasons show all sorts of fake drama and cliffhangers which are magically solved by the end of the next episode. Too scripted. |
