Movies they really should remake...

I LOVE that movie! Thought I was the only one who had seen it, let alone liked it. Haven't seen it in ages, though.

Haha, really? I thought everyone knew it and loved it. I guess I've been under my rock way too long.

I've never heard of it and I've watched a million movies.

I loved Defending Your Life too. Great movie.

The original Red Dawn was a great movie. The Russians and Cubans invaded the US straight up the middle from Mexico. They did not want to nuke us, they wanted to control our resources. And, as a PP noted, the message was about guerrilla warfare and how effective even a small, untrained group could be against a large military force using guerrilla tactics.

If you want GWTW from Mammy's perspective then read The Wind Done Gone and make this into a movie.

So... A remake of GWTW.

Been on an 80s kick lately and trying to think of movies they should remake.

Red Dawn remake sucked.

But, I'd like to see Breakfast Club or 16 Candles remade. Or Heathers. Or Pump up the Volume. Any others?

80's movies are still too modern for remake.

there are literally 1000's of movies in Warner, MGM, Columbia, RKO, Paramount, Fox archives from the silent film era to golden age that could provide awesome source material.

then again, i'm kind of happy that a lot of pre-code or 40's classics are not being 'rebooted' and bastardized by hollywood.

Imagine 'A Thin Man' remake....would be shameful as no one working today could come near Myrna Loy or William Powell in ability, class, beauty and screen presence.

It was awful, just awful, I wish I could unsee it and get that time back.

The original sucked. I didn't even realize they made a re-make.

Honestly, they should leave anything by John Hughes alone. Heathers was pretty re-markable and doesn't warrant a re-make.

Pump the Volume could have been a better a movie and not sure it would translate into a remake anyway.

The original was ground breaking. It is even the reason there is a PG-13 rating.

Well if that's your definition of ground breaking...yes, very violent, jingoistic and STUPID. Why would Russians invade some podunk town? They wouldn't. They would have tried to annihilate us with a nuclear option.

It wasn't ground breaking just because of the rating system changes.

First it wasn't just the Russians that invaded but a coalition that included Russians, Cubans and North Koreans (I think). They didn't just invade a small town but the town was included in the invasion. The kids didn't end the war but they were pushing back and great at guerilla warfare. The story was how a few can change the world.

No North Koreans--they were in M*A*S*H* though. Red Dawn is essentially a NRA wet dream.

If you want to know about changing the world rent Gandhi or Cry Freedom.

And as for Logan's Run, yes, with the right writer and director. I vote Joss Whedon or JJ Abrams.

I think this was called The Help.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're talking about fiction here.

The trailers for the upcoming "Carrie" remake look god-awful.

According to IMDB it's stuck in development hell. Logan's Run is the only movie I can think of that might benefit from a remake.

Why does Hollywood need to remake anything? There is a reason classic movies are classic movies. You would not rewrite Moby Dick or Crime and Punishment, would you?

I have a friend at MGM who told me I would love the new Pink Panther movie with Steve Martin. It sucked. As good as Martin is, he cannot outshine Peter Sellers.

It is the rare movie remake that is better than the original. I vote for the Coen brothers "True Grit" in this category. So is "The Departed," which is a remake of the Chinese film "Internal Affairs."

I am not so sure of "Logan's Run." The point of the original novel was the ascendance of the youth counterculture in the 1960s and the "don't trust anyone over 30" ethos. Unlike the movie, you were terminated at age 21. Sanctuary was a space station orbiting the earth.

"I am Legend" was a remake of the "Omega Man" which was in turn a remake of the "Last Man on Earth' based on Richard Matheson's novella "I am Legend." Both the latter two sucked, but the Will Smith version really sucked.

"Boyz in the Hood" is classic and should remain as it is. Why does it need a remake. Ditto for any John Hughes films. FYI, my 14 y.o. DD just watched the Breakfast Club with me and liked it as is.

"Red Dawn" is not a classic movie. Sorry. It was fun, fantasy escapism but not a candidate for the National Film Registry.

The old "Cape Fear" is just as scary, if not more so, than the new version, even if it is directed by Martin Scorsese. My vote for scariest movie that will never be remade: "The Night of the Hunter" with Robert Mitchum. "Let me tell you the story of love and hate!" Spike Lee referenced this verbatim in "Do the Right Thing!" - another great flick!

The Help was told through Skeeter's, the white protagonist's, view. So not really.

The Dark Knight trilogy far surpassed the original Batman movies.

I guess I don't put those films in the same category in that they come from different source material- the Dark Knight was based on the graphic novels while Batman was based on the comic books. They were re-boots of franchise rather than being remakes of a specific movie.
