The original sucked.  I didn't even realize they made a re-make.

Honestly, they should leave anything by John Hughes alone.  Heathers was pretty re-markable and doesn't warrant a re-make.

It wasn't ground breaking just because of the rating system changes.

First it wasn't just the Russians that invaded but a coalition that included Russians, Cubans and North Koreans (I think).  They didn't just invade a small town but the town was included in the invasion.  The kids didn't end the war but they were pushing back and great at guerilla warfare.  The story was how a few can change the world. [/quote]

No North Koreans--they were in M*A*S*H* though.  Red Dawn is essentially a NRA wet dream.
