Excited: I have 1.3 million in assets, not inc. real estate!

I still think it's great.

I want to say congratulations, but I don't really care. I think this post is in poor taste and 1.3 million is not a lot of money, especially considering all the scrimping and saving you feel so proud of. You must not be a savvy businessperson, but good luck with your coins.
However, I am not impressed with your lack of class or with your lack of business savvy. If you were 25 then this post would make more sense.

Owning expensive (or as you call them, flashy) items is not bragging. Bragging is telling everybody about the expensive items you own or going onto an anonymous forum and to tell everyone about the money you have. Do you really need strangers telling you, "Congratulations!" to feel better about yourself?

Did I mention I took 7 years off (not working at all)? And I only work part time now. Remember my posting. I did not say these were all of our assets...I said this was MY assets in my name. This has nothing to do with what is in my husband's name or our joint names or any real estate (6 homes and a 1/6 interest in a rented commercial building that has been rented, making a profit, for 8 years). Again, I posted because I AM proud of myself. I would agree, working full time at 1.3 million combined is not a great deal of money, but to have it as non-real estate and being about 1/2 of our asset (non real estate portfolio), I gotta say I think it is pretty damn good. Oh, and you can delete the first 5 words of your post, as they aren't true!

I'd be pleased if I accomplished any goal and would like to tout it somehow: working hard to loose weight, to beat cancer, to finishing school, etc. -- and I totally disagree...driving Range Rovers, wearing Rolexes, living in a McMansion, etc...that is touting your wealth.

I am amused. Don't confuse that with caring.

That is still not a lot. Even if it were doubled in just your name I would say the same. It is better than most people, but still not impressive or worth bragging about.

I would tell you why, but then I would be guilty of what I am accussing you off- being someone with little class.

But keep on posting and I will keep on chuckling. But you might want to spend less time bragging and more time around people who can upgrade your business skills and ways of thinking. Or just keep posting because we all need a laugh.

Agree that although it is fine to be proud of the work you have done, posting it in a forum above posts like "Struggling to pay the bills" and "Do you worry about losing your house?" is not the right place to post it. I think this is more a forum for people to seek advice.

Celebrate with friends/family, and make a nice large donation to charity to help the millions who, despite working more jobs than you do, can't pay their bills. And keep in mind that a small business can descend as rapidly as it rises...

NP here. Congrats, OP. This is a great achievement. It inspires me to work harder at my finances.

Congrats! I understand completely why you are saying it here!!

Congrats! As a person who built my wealth from nothing, I fully appreciate thye extent of your achievement.

Congrats, OP. I'm trying to make it by 45, or ten more years. It's a hard slog (saver married to a spender), but hope springs eternal.

Never be ashamed of inspiring others.

Congratulations, OP! Ignore all the haters. There are a lot of negative and a lot of jealous people on these boards. Keep up the good work! You'll have the last laugh b/cs these rich people on here telling you how little money that is or to quit bragging will all have entitled pricks for kids and yours will be well grounded with a good set of values!

I always think that my kids will be happy they were in hand me downs versus new clothes now...and their college will leave them debt free. I realize there will be a time they "have to have" something but I'll deal with it then. And yes, I've sacrificed plenty...I don't go out to eat all the time, I rarely go to the movies, get books from the library, etc.

Almost equally amazing...home w/kids full time for 7 year and has that wealth...most would be working their asses off, away from family and still overspending.
